The Akiyama's plan had very few flaws and the Transformation chamber worked Perfectly. (They had tested it out on some random Thugs from other families.) So nothing could go wrong or so they believed. Unfortunatle for the Akiyama Family their research covered Ranma AFTER he arrived at the Tendos.
If they had dug further they would've discovered that Ranma underwent the Neko Ken Training. If they had they would've just killed Ranma and been done with it.
The Neko ken was not just an unbeatable techniuqe in martial arts, it was the Martial Arts way of creating a Demon hunter bloodline. It was supposed to create a Martial artist warrior that could fight side by side with Mystical Demon Hunters. Unfortunately, Demons found out about it and hunted down not only all candidates for it, but hunter down every copy of the training manual. Fortunately they missed one.
Genma had noticed that some pages were missing in the back but paid it no mind. What was on the missing pages was the information that the ordeal would cause a cat demon to infused some of their energy into the trainee. All what needed was exposure to demonic energy and the trainee would become a cat hanyou and be able to not only fight alongside Mystical Demon hunters but alone if called for. The Martial Artist Demon hunter would gain the accelerated healing of a hanyou and the enhanced senses. But their were two draw backs.
The first, until the first exposure to demonic energy, they suffered from the fear of cats.
The second, after the exposure they became SUPER cat lovers.
Now add Jensenkyo's curse and you got a monkey wrech that could derail ANY demon's plans.
So when Ranma's eyes snapped open ...
