"Minako Aino!" chirped the blonde with a bow in her hair, jumping to her feet. "My specialty is kenjutsu! My dream is to be a singer! My favorite things in all the world is to watch hunky guys working out."
Ranma blinked at her. "Uhm. Reminder. Your sensei is married. OK. Moving on."
"Rei Hino," said the other girl, cooly standing up as the other girl sat down.
"No relation to the other Rei," said Naruto.
"That's it?" asked Ranma.
"I'm a miko primarily," said Rei. "Tradition in my family is to exit the ninja work at chunin level unless there's a war. At which point I'll go back to work at the temple."
"Hikawa Shrine? So you're fire element affinity?" asked Ranma.
Rei nodded, relaxing a little. "Yes, my family has a strong fire affinity."
"Okay," said Ranma, settling back with his back against the wall. "I'm a taijutsu specialist with an affinity for Wind techniques."
BOOM!
Everyone looked in the direction of a rising plume of smoke.
"That would be... Team Kakashi, I think," said Ranma.
"Huh," said Naruto. "Whoever thought putting Shampoo, Sasuke, and Akane on a team was a good idea?"
"Could have been worse," said Ranma as a tree fell over in the distance. "Could have been REI and Akane on a team."
"Excuse me?" asked Rei Hino.
"He means Ayanami," supplied Naruto.
"Oh, that makes sense then," agreed Rei.
"I think Akane has a little more survival instinct than to try something with Ayanami," added Minako.
"Anyway," said Ranma, turning back to his genin. "Tomorrow we've got a little test to see if you graduate."
"Didn't we already graduate?" asked Minako.
"Nah, that exam was just to see if you mastered the basics," said Ranma. "Tomorrow is when you actually make genin. Or not."
