Master PC for Idiots: Time for a plan [Episode 242958]

by Stibbons

“You sound like Kuno,” Daisuke said, but there was no reply.

“Kuno's not smart enough to use a Master PC,” Sayuri said, smiling. “I don't think he even knows how to type.”

“Maybe,” Hiroshi said, “but we shouldn't talk about it here, where our opponent can listen in. Let's all go home.”

“But how will we talk?” Yuka said. “Like he just did? I'm not sure how to set that up.”

Hiroshi nodded. “There are probably ways to eavesdrop if we do that, but it'll take him time to set them up. Ultimately, we need to make this club room secure, though. I'll explain what you three need to do once we're all home.”

“It definitely sounded like Kuno,” Daisuke said, thirty minutes later. “Can we get pictures on this thing.”

“We can project full 3-D holograms,” Hiroshi said, “but we don't need to.”

“And we don't want to sue the Master PC more than we have to,” Sayuri said. “Who do you think our opponent is?”

“Not enough evidence for a guess.”

“It sounded like Kuno” Yuka said.

“Slightly archaic formality, with a lot of bluster,” Hiroshi agreed. “”but I'd expect anyone trying to sound like a god to do the same, instead of just talking normally.”

“He was hanging around outside Noboru's place though,” Daisuke said thoughtfully.”Did we ever find out why.”

Yuka nodded. “Akane told me that Mr Saotome told them that Kuno was their to listen to Ranma recite love poetry, and nothing else. Kuno said it was the first time he'd been there though, and we know Noboru had been using Ranma for a lot longer than that.”

“Which may just mean he wiped Kuno's memory after each visit,” Hiroshi pointed out. “That would be more secure. He might have had another client too.”

“We can check up on Kuno, can't we?” Yuka said.

“I am doing,” Hiroshi said, typing a few commands into the Master PC. “It claims he's received a few adjustments, both physical and mental, but isn't himself a user. There are ways to fiddle that-”

“How? Daisuke asked.

“Dual personality,” Hiroshi said. “The Kuno we know might just be an alter ego of the real user, who need not even be a member of the family. If they set up the cover personality well enough, anyone investigating Kuno will see only what they expect to see”

“You're showing off again,” Sayuri said. “The important thing is to stop whatever he's planning, and if Kuno's done that to himself, he's not really Kuno.”

“Can't we just put some sort of shield round the school?” Daisuke asked.

“We can,” Hiroshi said. “And he can pick another target.”

“He said he'd go after the school.” Hiroshi said. “If he doesn't, that'll make him look weak.”

“Daisuke,” Sayuri said patiently, “He's trying to become a god. I don't think he cares what we think.”

“So we need to let him attack the school,” Yuka said, “but we we can't let anyone get hurt. We should warn Ranma. He-”

“Isn't equipped to deal with this,” Hiroshi said, then hesitated. “OK, if our opponent sets up a throne in the school canteen, and proclaims himself god-emperor of all the world, Ranma can take him down. Anything subtler than that, and Ranma will be lost.”

Daisuke frowned thoughtfully.

“Can we keep him out if it?” Sayuri asked. “More drugs.”

“We can,” Hiroshi confirmed. “But we can't do that every time. People would notice. We'll need to decided whether we really need to do-”

“Set a trap,” Daisuke blurted. “We know he's going to come and gloat tomorrow. We set a trap for him.”

“Good thinking,” Hiroshi said, then smiled. “That gives me an idea. We'll need to use the Master PC, and we still might not actually catch him, but we certainly should be able to unmask him.”
