it wasn't that Ranma was actively pursuing Kasumi and Hinako, so much as they were pleasant company that did not A:try to kill him for any slight, real or imagined; B:try to climb into his pants (though unknown to him neither would mind if he wanted to do that to them...)C:smash him whenever a girl tried B whether or not he was actually interested D:try any number of unpleasant things that normally resulted in Ranma being painfully injured.
however Ranma was totally unaware of the fact that both girls had a plan to win him over, and maybe share him. but not with the crazy girls. this plan involved several major elements: 1:kindness and understanding (something that they believed Ranma doesn't get enough of) 2:removing the association of "even slightly ecchy = extreme pain and suffering" (at least in regards to them) 3:and progressing him slowly (but not to slowly) towards being comfortable in an intimate situation (again, at least in regards to them and to hell with the rest)
the other girls did not stand a chance.
as proof that their plan was working, he had spent the last hour with the two of them and he wasn't even nervous. had he been with akane or any of the others he would have either run away out of sheer nerves or smashed, or shot into the sky or any number of things.
