The contract was long as Akane read and tried to summarize it for the benefit of herself and Ranma. She couldn't believe herself. She not only had Ranma propose to her she risked it all for her wildest fantasies and it paid off, It was crazy Ranma should have been disgusted, She should have seen Akane's lesbian leanings and ideas about relationships and dropped her like a red hot brick, shortly washing out the memory of her perversion with her other fiancées. "Oh boy the other fiancées" she thought, they where going to be pissed. Still Ranma's signature, thumb print, hers where all here. She remembered she had an insistent black haired slave girl behind her increasingly confused about her fate. Akane surely shared some confusion having no actual memories herself, but she was convinced it happened.
"I-It says you're my slave," she presented the documents to Ranma so she could get a closer read, sitting beside the girl she outlined it with no small amount of embarrassing "This part says you grant legal authority to me for y-you and your possessions" Ranma gulped nervously and allowed Akane to continue. "It goes on to say Ranma r-resigns ability to consent to Akane, r-regarded legally as property." she continues, doing her best to cut down the legalese she barely could read herself. eventually coming to some important notes presented. "Th-this contract is permanent and binding, Only I can break it."
She turned the page, Shivering but if the front page was a knock out, the page with all the bureaucratic signatures was even more shocking. "R-ranma.. this is your mothers signature!" She whispered surprised. "Mom?" Ranma perked, both fear and anxious hope filling her voice "It says Nodoka, as your guardian gives Ranma permission to sign this form and submit to the contract, under the conditions also laid out in section 5, conditions and termination. She must present herself to be 'manly', to show her commitment to her 'daughter'." Akane continued to read, noticing her own Father's signature and covered the sections on her becoming responsible for Ranma's own actions and the terms in the legal contract that could invalidate them. The condition Nodoka granted was outlined further, Akane wasn't sure she liked what she saw but she was very relieved with Ranma to see Nodoka wasn't going to skin her or her new slave girl alive. "No, worse." Akane thought, "she's gonna take Ranma away." Akane instinctively drew an arm around Ranma, she already had a hand on the girls shoulder as they read. Nabiki and Kasumi long gone as they sorted out their new relationship.
"In compliance with legal standards, Akane's right to possession may be revoked in cases where her property's delinquency or criminal behavior shows carelessness or neglect on her part. all misdemeanors are to be secondary in trial, Felony's result in automatic termination of this contract. Because Saotome is a minor, Parental consent is mandatory and they may provide additional conditions in the lines below until such times that both reach legal age under Japanese law." Nodoka's additions where pretty vague but had more to do with taking some sort of training class with her. Interesting enough Akane finished timidly with the fact that the document didn't regard her curse at all. Maybe it really was true. Slavery legal in Japan may have been a hard sale, but it wouldn't be any easier if they knew about magic.
Ranma breathed deep then exhaled, calming herself, it was hard to really believe, oh the contract stuff? the gullible martial artist fell for that hook line and sinker, this whole time only one person was on her mind, her mother. her mother approved of this new relationship, she wasn't going to die. "I'm not gonna die." she whispers with relief. in retrospect It should have been obvious. After all Nabiki had said Nodoka had been present for their arrangement, but Ranma hardly connected that detail with it's implications, She was simply too used to that sword hanging over her neck. She loved her mother, the last thing she wanted to do was upset her. with the most pressing concern of hers out of the way Ranma's mind was freed up to actually think about what was actually happening. She began to reflect a little on her true feelings about all this...
