Restart Deluge! PCC - Babylon Cats: Warning Invitations [Episode 244456]

by Thrythlind

"Miss Vincent," Franklin said with a trace of disapproval. "To what do I owe the honor of this visit?"

Rally had known a lot of doctors and most were not happy with what they considered her cavalier attitude toward life in general. She sometimes blamed her ethnicity on it. A lot of people seemed to assume that any sort of Indian heritage meant that a person was some sort of vegetarian thou shalt not kill Buddhist or cow-worshiping ascetic Hindu.

Not she disrespected those religions, but there was the real religion, neither of which she knew much about, and then there were the people that thought they knew what the real religion was because they had watched the Ghandi movie once.

"Someone a couple of days ago casually mentioned that they knew I had dealings with the underground," Rally said.

"You don't think I..." the doctor started to say.

"No, I don't," Rally said. "But this was mentioned in front of almost a dozen arms-dealers gray and black."

"How the hell would they know?" Franklin asked.

"Nothing happens in a vacuum, Doctor," Rally said. "I asked a friend to find me some reliable medical help for my girls, she relayed me to some names who relayed me to the underground."

"How long ago was this?" Franklin asked.

"Ten years ago," Rally said.

"I'm surprised this hasn't come up before," Franklin noted.

"My friends are good at what they do," Rally said with a smile. "I just thought I'd warn you."

"You just trail trouble behind, don't you?" Stephen demanded.

"Seems to be par for the course, Doctor," Rally said casually. "You've had your brushes too, brought trouble along."

"But I found ways that didn't need weapons to deal with my trouble," Stephen noted.

"Pfft, weapons aren't the problem," Rally said. "Everybody out this door is armed in more ways than most people will ever understand. This whole lab..."

And she gestures at the medlab that was still in the process of repairing the damage that the exploding woman had left behind.

"...is a weapon. Weapons are controlled, they do what you tell them, they point where you aim them. They don't do anything without you telling them too. They're harmless without someone to operate them. The problem isn't weapons, it's..."

"It's the people behind the weapons, right," Stephen said, "I've heard that all before. It's an excuse..."

"Yeah it is," Rally said. "It is an excuse to blame the guns, cause if the guns are to blame then we aren't. I'd really love to pass my sins on to an inanimate object doctor, but can't do that. They're all my own."

"Ahhh, Doctor Franklin," a loud, boisterous voice declared coming into the lab. He paused a moment. "And...Miss Vincent, good day, it is interesting to see you as well."

He sounded tolerant.

"Ambassador," Rally said. "If you'll excuse me, I'll be going, I have things to..."

"No, no, that's all right," Londo said. "I might as well invite you as well, given your growing prominence on this station."

"Invite me to what?" Rally asked grimacing as he remarked on what had to be her interactions with various members of the command staff.

"What's going on here, Ambassador Londo?" Franklin asked.

"Tomorrow is the anniversary of my ascension," Londo declared. "It would be appreciated if the two of you attended as my guests."

Rally rolled her eyes and started to walk out the door.

"I'll see if I can make it," she said over her shoulder.

"You know," Londo said a moment later. "Most people describe her as being rather a friendly type."

He thought for a moment.

"I don't think I've ever actually seen any sign of that," Londo finished.

"One wonders why," Franklin said.
