It was a minka, or non-fortified old-style home such as might be used by farmers or artisans or merchants. It was also of the gassho-zukuri style, so a tall pointed roof and made of materials available in the area. Unfortunately, such materials tended to degrade when not tended - which is why the structure was falling apart.
"I wonder," said Kakashi, making a 'stay here' gesture as he went to investigate.
Sheep pen out back, shearing shed. House itself looks fairly sound. Oh. Wait a minute.
Kakashi reached out to let his hand rest against a particular knothole in one wall. Uzumaki spiral scratched into the wood nearby. If this was a safehouse, it's too close to the road. So, refugees maybe?
The place showed signs that it had once been a family dwelling, up to and including scratches at regular intervals on one door frame. Marking the heights of growing children. Some families did that. Not ninja families of course, but civilian ones.
A single bed in a room off the common and Kakashi frowned at that under his mask. Furniture which had been ripped apart. A door that was broken, it having been barred from the inside. More signs quickly were accumulated now that he had an idea of the narrative.
Three other rooms were similarly ripped apart long long ago. The only odd part was the nearly complete lack of insects.
Then again, if it HAD BEEN an Uzushiogakure household, an anti-pest fuuinjutsu could have been scribed on the interior framework.
Bandits. About a year ago. Waited until someone went outside, killed them and used the entry point. Family reacted immediately, piled into the bedroom and barred the door. Bandits didn't get through immediately but they eventually battered down the door. No bodies though. What happened to the bodies?
Kakashi looked outside, seeing the storm gathering. Well, it's shelter. Tazuna getting on in years probably needs a dry spot.
