"What did you do?" asked Kakashi.
"He now takes after his father in the intelligence department. Put in another way, his intelligence scores went from Very Low Average to Average except in a couple of areas where Genius ratings may apply."
"Wha?" asked Naruto.
"Mind you, this doesn't give him access to information he didn't have previously. He may no longer be stupid, but ignorant is still a factor. Fortunately, ignorance can be cured."
"So how does this create anything?" asked Kakashi.
"I have an idea. It involves the Uzumaki clan's use of fuuinjutsu."
"Oh?" asked Kakashi.
"Fuuinjutsu?" asked Naruto.
"The Uzumaki clan was known for their great stamina, strong chakra, and their talent for fuuinjutsu. It was this last that was seen as a sufficient threat that several villages banded together to destroy Uzushiogakure - the homeland of the Uzumaki clan."
"A tragic backstory is common to ninja," noted Kakashi.
"Yes. I noticed. Not a lot of 'happy endings' either."
"Also true," admitted Kakashi.
"Yes, well. You might not want to watch this. I'm borrowing part of a concept from a universe where 'alchemy' replaces 'ninjutsu' and this might be a bit unsettling."
"Wha?!" managed a startled Naruto before space and time twisted around him and he vanished. Time raced sideways for a moment.
"Ouch," said Kakashi. "I felt that. I thought my Sharingan was going to melt."
"If your eye had been uncovered, that would have been a distinct possibility."
"Where is Naruto?" asked Kakashi.
"Are you familiar with Conceptual Space? Aboriginal Dreamtime? Clarke-Warner Metaspace? Gehenna? The Nadir Point? Ak'vitaar Shavr Nok? Threshold Static Point Alpha?"
"No," admitted Kakashi.
"He is currently facing a door and getting a glimpse of things."
"More precisely? Where is he and what is he doing?" asked Kakashi.
"He is outside the Universe As You Know It. He is getting a look, a brief glimpse really, of Everything That Is."
"Everything that is what?" was the obvious question. That it came from Sakura was the first indication that Kakashi had that at least one of his other two students was awake.
"Everything that is life and death, space and time, matter and energy, duality and loops. He is the Heir to the Uzumaki Clan and all its secrets. There he can see the fuuinjutsu secrets of the Uzumaki - not only where they were but where they were going."
"Which sufficiently alarmed several villages to the point where they put aside all their other issues in order to attack their village en masse," pointed out Kakashi.
"Naruto is only one person. If he survives and manages to pass some of this on to a clan - that might be a concern for the future. What are the odds of that? Currently he has one girl interested in him who can't even speak directly to him."
"If you're so powerful you can do that, don't you know already?" asked Sakura.
"Does Kakashi Hatake read the end of the book first so that he knows how everything will end up? Of course not. It would be boring to know how everything will turn out, to never be surprised, to know all eventualities. One reason to deal with humans in the first place is their capacity for manufacturing plot twists in their own stories. Enough. He is ready to return. Ah, and an unexpected change already."
"A surprise?" asked Kakashi. Ninjas liked giving surprises, getting them was considerably less desired.
"He is not returning alone. He's been able to bring back someone he managed to meet on the Other Side. Intriguing."
"The other side of what?" asked Sakura, her eyes wide and a little wild as she considered what the conversation had been about. She was rather hoping that what was implied was NOT what was about to show up.
"Precisely. The Other Side of that Door involving life and death, space and time. Fare thee well, ninja. Live long, prosper, and enjoy your time on this side of that Door."
