"A sword?" asked Kakashi. There were two things a sword could do well. Slash and thrust. How could one be 'ultimate'?
"A sword. It is fairly traditional for shonen protaganists, fantasy heroes, and general warrior types."
"Well, I suppose it IS traditional," noted Kakashi aloud, "but kind of disappointing. And if it's traditional as you say - kind of over-done?"
"Hmmm. You may have a point. What could I do with one that hasn't been done before? Stealing souls or devouring them has been done, in this very universe in fact. Healing - that's been done too. The ability to cut through everything? Done and somewhat dangerous in this setting. Absorbing all chakra and jutsu it contacts? That fish-guy has a sword like that and he's one of those hunting Naruto."
"I'm being hunted?" asked Naruto.
"Hmmm," hmmmed Kakashi, thinking that sounded like someone from Kiri and making note that someone from there apparently had a contract out on Naruto.
"The Sword of Hope. Done elsewhere. Sword of Despair. Doesn't really fit Naruto, does it? Let's see. Sword of Love? No, someone would certainly object to a sword that causes people to fall in love with the wielder. Pity though. Having foreign kunoichi abandon their villages to flock to Konoha would certainly make things more interesting."
"That doesn't sound bad at all," admitted Kakashi, from his own viewpoint on such.
"I'm twelve," pointed out Naruto.
"Perhaps this?" A black wakizashi appeared, seemingly carved of a single block of material. "A version of Fragarach that allows you to parry any attack?"
"That would be useful, but not very 'ultimate'," said Kakashi. "And I think it would only be a matter of time before he lost it or it was taken away."
"True. Danzo would likely acquire it for his own purposes, or those two advisors would pull strings and have it locked away for someone they considered more suitable."
"Awwwww," awwwed Naruto as the sword vanished.
"Morningdark perhaps? The 'Sword Of Defiance' is certainly powerful by mortal standards. No, that doesn't fit the setting very well since you're not exactly going to run into many starships... oh. Yes. That will do."
An image appeared, of a planet slowly turning under the light of a nearby star. Space rippled and a ship appeared over that planet.
"Excalibur. An Imperial Star Destroyer."
"While it looks somewhat impressive, wouldn't that be a little difficult to use in a typical ninja battle?" asked Kakashi.
"I suppose." The images disappeared. "Ah. This will work."
Something or someone appeared.
"A Warforged. An experienced soldier named 'Jiang' - after a sword of the same type. What you would call a taijutsu specialist."
"Three person squad with a jonin leader," pointed out Kakashi.
"Too bad. Would have been interesting and she really deserved better than her original fate. Maybe-"
"Maybe it would be best to just drop the 'sword' requirement?" asked Kakashi.
"I suppose you're right. Just doesn't seem right for the major protaganist in a fantasy series to be using a repurposed masonry tool as his primary weapon."
"Kunai are also traditional," admitted Kakashi.
"Maybe a sword-like jutsu? You've got the Chidori. A wind-based slicing-and-dicing jutsu? No, his control is way too shoddy at present. He'd slice his own arm off."
"That doesn't sound good," understated Naruto. He was rather attached to his arms.
"So. If not that. Maybe. Ah. Now this is perfect."
Kakashi studied the image. "She's somewhat pretty but I'd hardly call her perfect."
The image of the girl went from posing to looking as if she wanted to slap the jonin.
"To each their own, I suppose. Having Naruto able to summon her would avoid a number of problems with just handing him a weapon, and it would allow this to be about a boy and his summons instead. Introducing Tamamo No Mae. The nine-tailed kitsune princess."
"You're kidding, right?"
"Imagine the confusion, the panic, the screaming and running," enthused Toltiir.
"Let's not."
"True. The Kyubi might not like the competition. How about this then?"
"Hi!" said a perky-looking girl in green.
"Three genin and a jonin, remember?" asked Kakashi.
"I'm a Summons," said the girl to Kakashi, then looked over Naruto. "How ya doing?! I'm Medium Tank M4! You can also call me 'Chie Satonaka', or if you prefer 'Sherman'! I like taijutsu, acts of heroism, and transforming to my other form and running over villains!"
"'Other form'?" asked Naruto.
Chie walked outside and shifted.
"You turn into a big metal thingie?" asked Naruto, staring at the tank.
"Like I said," said the tank in a perky voice. "I'm a tank!"
"He can summon a girl who turns into a vehicle?" asked Kakashi, seeing rather more use for this.
"Right. He can unlock the others after doing special quests."
"Others?" asked Naruto, perking up.
"Yes, as I understand the genre needs - you'd need to be able to fill various roles and will get involved in fights where Chie wouldn't necessarily be able to get involved. Ocean battles for example. So - one watercraft, an air-based fighter, a sensor type, and so on."
Kakashi started looking for an excuse to nix this as he was pretty sure that this was going to involve a LOT of paperwork.
