"I know," said Zabuza, as he looked in the direction of the Konoha ninja team.
"You know?" asked Haku.
"Another lesson in being a shinobi," said Zabuza, adopting the "instructor pose" he was apt to use. "If you run into a god, elder god, archdemon, tailed beast, or similar thing - avoid if at all possible."
"Yes, Zabuza-sama," said Haku, ducking his head.
"So, what we have is an opportunity for you to join the Leaf Village, with me eventually being forgiven for my little coup attempt after the NEW Mizukage comes to power in another two years," said Zabuza.
"Zabuza-sama, how do you know this?" asked Haku.
"Elder god," said Zabuza as if that explained everything.
"It explained this to you?" asked Haku.
"No, actually it dropped off a children's book," said Zabuza, indicating a pile of shredded paper. "I read it BEFORE I shredded it. Apparently it's a god of humor and feels I don't have a sense of humor."
"I see, Zabuza-sama."
Zabuza shrugged. "That thing was right of course. I don't really understand the whole ha-ha joke thing."
"So, what do we do?" asked Haku.
Zabuza was quiet for a few moments. "We follow the script. If that Thing From Beyond was correct about how the future turns out, it's the best chance for both of us to get what we want."
"So I am of no further use for you after this, Zabuza-sama?" asked Haku.
Zabuza snorted. "No. The script requires that we approach as we normally would have, but take the following changes into account."
"There is one person, hiding over there behind some trees," said Sakura abruptly.
"Oh, how can you tell?" asked Kakashi.
"The..." Sakura's voice trailed off as she realized HOW she knew, "- the trees told me."
"Oh good," said Kakashi. "Anything else?"
"No," said Sakura, a little distracted as she was trying to concentrate on the information she was getting. "I can only tell that one's there because he's close up against the tree itself."
"Well, I suppose that makes sense," said Kakashi after considering that. "Trees don't have eyes or ears. Maybe when you get more experience you'll be able to do more with it."
"He's gone now," said Sakura, frowning at the way the information just seemed to whisper itself into her ears.
