Mischief Fragment - Replay: Transmutation for Fun & Profit [Episode 248728]

Reset to baseline. Find a device. Learn from it. Simple enough, and it allowed more observation of the change that he was throwing in.

Where to throw it in would also have a significant effect.

There and then. Had he used that before? No? Well, that was good enough then.

"So meet me up on the roof," said Kakashi.

"Aw man, this-"

Everyone blinked and considered the spot Naruto had just been.

"Interesting," noted Kakashi, though he sounded extremely bored. "A shunshin?"

FWAM!

"Ah, well, interesting," said Naruto, straightening up. "You're all here still."

"How did you change clothes? Why are you taller? What the hell?!" asked Sakura.

"I heard you were a bit of a prankster," said Kakashi. "So far - you really haven't impressed me."

"Wasn't trying," said Naruto.

"Roof, we'll finish talking there," said Kakashi.

Kakashi was aware that somehow Naruto had changed significantly within the space of perhaps a full minute. Not just being a couple of inches taller, or his clothes. No, there was a weariness about him, as well as a more thoughtful look. Well, he'd be able to gauge things a bit more accurately tomorrow.

"-and I hate Naruto!" finished Sakura.

Great, thought Kakashi. Tells me nothing about her ninja skills, just that she's after Sasuke and hates Naruto. Lovely. Ought to fail them right out of the chute and send them back. Love triangles are NEVER good for team dynamics.

"I can't believe I ever thought she was cute," muttered Naruto, hanging his head slightly.

"Well, it's your turn, O Hated One," said Kakashi. Hmmm? Past tense?

"Naruto Uzumaki. And really beginning to regret coming back."

"Well, tomorrow is a test to determine if you're going to become genin or not," said Kakashi. "Don't eat any breakfast or you'll just throw it up."

He gave the rest of the usual speech. Sasuke responded with bored indifference. Sakura with a certain nervousness and frequent looks towards Sasuke. Naruto frowned and shook his head.

Well, this would be an easy group to fail.

The next morning was a beautiful spring day. The sun was shining. The breeze was slightly chilly but just enough to add an element of briskness. And there were genin to fail.

"Fine," said Naruto. "Get those two bells off of you or your corpse. Got it."

"Such confidence for an untried genin," said Kakashi.

"Flesh to Stone," said Naruto, pointing a finger and focussing his magic.

Then he went up to the statue, carefully broke the thin bit of stone holding the stone bells to the stone belt, and stepped away from the jonin.

"Wha- wha- WHAT?!" yelped Sakura. "What did you do?!"

"Dispel," said Naruto, focussing magic and turning the bells back to metal. He gave his hand a little shake to check and the bells made the usual sort of sound.

"KNOCK IT OFF," said Sakura, punching Naruto. "He didn't even say start."

Naruto staggered once from the impact, then glared at her. "Hit me again, Haruno, and there'll be a second statue here."

Sakura held up the two bells she'd snagged when she'd knocked Naruto off balance. "Thank you for this. Sasuke and I will be sure to remember you going back to the Academy for our sakes."

Naruto pointed at Sakura. "Flesh To Stone."

The Hokage looked at the statue, then at Naruto. "You going to turn him back?"

"Fine, fine," said Naruto. "Stone to Flesh."

"-and if there are no questions, you can start," said Kakashi. He blinked. "Hokage-sama? What? Wait, the sun position - it's mid-afternoon?"

"Kakashi," said the Hokage. "Naruto showed up at my office, with a small lizard, claiming that you were doing what sounded like the Bell Test. However, he managed to catch you by surprise with a new jutsu that turned you to stone."

"'Turned me to stone'?" questioned Kakashi.

The Hokage pointed.

Kakashi examined the statue of Sakura Haruno standing there, smirking, holding one hand out as if dangling something from there.

"Now, Naruto, can you explain more about these new jutsu to me?" asked the Hokage.

"Yeah. But I'm gonna need some headache pills before long."

"So, he has a jutsu which turned two members of his team into statues. Another which turned Sasuke Uchiha into a newt?"

"I got better," grumbled Sasuke.

"Can we get on another team? One far far away from Naruto?" asked Sakura nervously.

"You didn't change her into anything else did you?" asked the Hokage.

"When I turned her back, she hit me for using magic on her," said Naruto with a shrug. "I turned her into a cute little puppy dog. Then I threatened to take her over to the Inuzuka kennels."

"Really?" asked the Hokage. "What breed?"

"That was the weird part, I was aiming for a terrier but she ended up a bisenji."

"I made him turn her back," said Kakashi. "Though she did make a cute puppy."

"Missing the point, completely missing the point," said Sakura.

"Oh come on, it's not like I turned you into something completely unnatural," protested Naruto.

"Hah. I'd like to see you try! I'm ready for you now!"

"Baneful Polymorph."

"A little pink bunny rabbit," noted Sasuke as he looked down at the irate rabbit. "Can you do something a little more competent?"

"What did you have in mind?" asked Naruto, a bit curious.

"Like if we had to track something, could you turn her into a tracking dog? If we had to keep track of someone and not be seen, could you turn her into a hawk or something like that?" Sasuke scooped up the rabbit that was giving him a betrayed look. "If we were having to survive in a jungle, could you turn her into a panther?"

"Hmmm," said Naruto. "Yeah. I could do that."

The rabbit blinked and stared at Naruto.

"So your jutsu basically takes something and turns it into something else," said Sasuke thoughtfully.

"Yeah, transformation magic or transmutation," said Naruto. "A willing target is easy. Oh. Dispel."

POOF!

Sakura stood there with the top of her head being scritched by Sasuke before she realized she wasn't a rabbit anymore. "STOP DOING THAT!"

"You mean stop turning you into things because you keep trying to hit me or call me names?" asked Naruto.
