One of the first thing Toltiir did was fashion a new container for Naruto’s soul.
“What? Why did you turn me into a bird?” Naruto screeched.
“Because,” the cat smirked, “once I make a change to your past, you will no longer technically exist. So I need to copy you. It wouldn’t be any fun to have you make a choice if you can’t see how that choice plays out. So now, you get to observe yourself in a form that will be perfect for spying. Also, it would be nice to have someone to chat with for a change.”
“Oh.” Naruto wasn’t sure how to take that news. “What if I get eaten?”
Toltiir waved his paw. “I made you into something akin of a phoenix. You can’t be killed or die. You don’t age. You just look like a crow because brightly colored things attract attention. In a world of ninja, attracting attention is a great way to get killed.”
Naruto perked up. “Oh, that is useful. Maybe I could have that ability?”
Toltiir waved his paw again. “Putting a bit of a phoenix in you? Been there, done that already.”
“What? When?”
“Alright, now on to your choice. To give yourself time to grow into your new abilities, and with an IQ like yours you need the time -”
“Hey,” Naruto interjected, offended.
“Let’s back track to when you were five.”
The world around them blurred. Naruto found himself perched in a tree, with a black cat nearby, staring down into an alley. In that alley was a little blond boy, about three years in age, that was curled behind a dumpster, whimpering and sniffling.
“Alright,” Toltiir said as he smiled in excitement. “Let’s add a little spice to this continuum. Time to...”
“Hold on,” Naruto interjected. “I’m not so sure about these strange devices you showed me. None offer anything a ninja needs. If they’re so intelligent, why is none a ninja?”
“A ninja, you say? I can work with that. Perhaps a device that is technically less computer and more trapped intellect. Perhaps a ninja that mastered a field. Yes, let’s do that. You’re device will grant teachings and mastery over-”
