Tsunade picked herself up. "Explosive clones?!" Were these explosive shadow clones, fire or whatever he was putting into those bright bolts still occasionally being lobbed at her or were they -
Tsunade's eyes widened as she was being rushed by twenty copies of the six-year-old now. "Oh. No. You have got to be..."
Twenty six-year-old boys leapt at her. Tsunade did two quick Substitution techniques, a Body Flicker, and followed it up with a double-handed strike of the ground that caused the earth around her to cave and split. The clones lost their footing, fell, and promptly exploded.
And a little boy to fall out of a tree.
She was a veteran of several battles in a war, she'd faced S-Rank opponents. She was one of the Legendary Sannin of the Leaf. She did NOT give the boy time to recover.
Now that he was safely unconscious, Tsunade straightened and looked around. Fires still burned in little pockets, there were holes in various surfaces, the ground underfoot was cracked and crumbled, trees were lying in various states of destruction.
"This would be why Lord Jiraiya had requested to train Naruto outside of the village," pointed out Kurenai as she limped towards the four little girls.
"No kidding," said Tsunade drily.
"We'll have to move the campsite," said Shizune as she looked around at the devastation.
"No kidding," said Tsunade, managing to sound even more drily sarcastic.
"Actually, this is fairly restrained," said Jiraiya. "He's much worse without having girls around to engage his 'protect precious people' instincts."
"WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU?!" asked Tsunade, finding a target for her anger.
"Dead actually, or so close it is no difference," said Jiraiya, his voice clear and perfectly calm.
"What do you think you're-" began Tsunade, reaching for the old fool's black haori.
Jiraiya casually deflected the grasping hands to the side, seemingly bored.
Tsunade swung, finding her old team-mate seeming to be bored was another goad to her anger.
"Knock it off, Tsunade," said Jiraiya, moving in a quick blur that ended with him holding one of the offending arms behind her back. "The roles have been changed, whether you like it or not. I am no longer the perverted clown. What role you play is still up to you."
Tsunade felt herself shoved away and stumbled to keep her balance. Jiraiya had turned away as if he had no interest at all in what she did. "Got a change of clothing, is that what kept you?"
"The clothing was provided for me when I was returned to this life, Tsunade." Jiraiya knelt to check Naruto.
"You say you died?" Tsunade's voice was actively mocking. She'd been through a lot. People died and that was it - their story ended. "Prove it."
