"Gramma, I was here! It was just.. one, two, three... THREE days ago."
"Hush child, Gramma's talking. He was tall and powerful, with a face like a thundercloud."
"Gramma! He was always smiling and you said he looked like a doofus."
"Grand-daughter, if you keep interrupting, you won't be getting any sweets for the next week."
"...I be good."
"Ahem, where was I? Oh yes, the Fist Of The Heavens, and how he routed two hundred bandits - with his companions the two Swordswomen (the Virtuous One and the Not So Virtuous One), and their brilliant but lazy Jonin."
flashback:
"Oh HELL," said the lead bandit, stopping abruptly as the charge towards the unprotected settlement came to a stumbling halt.
"Not HIM again," commented one of the other bandits.
"All in favor of turning around and running away?" asked one of the bandits who was covered in bandages.
"AYE!" yelled the majority of the bandits as they did exactly that.
"But..." said Naruto, slowly lowering his kankabo. "I wanted to beat them up in a suitably humiliating and painful fashion."
"Don't get cocky, they could lead you into a trap," said Toraji. "I doubt they'll be back anyway."
"What makes you think so?" asked Miya-Miya.
"There's a cliff that way," said Toraji.
There were some screams sounding in the distance.
"Damn," said Miya-Miya. "You must really have scared the crap out of them."
Present:
"Welcome," said the chipper young girl behind the counter. "Welcome to Chiba Deli! Can I take your order?"
"I'll take the pastrami on rye," said Sasuke as he sat down. "Extra tomato."
"Uhm," said Sakura, looking over the odd menu. "The same I guess."
"Coming right up," said the store clerk, going to work immediately.
"Hey, Kirino," said a customer at the front counter. "You hear about that kid on Team Toraji?"
"Yeah," said Kirino. "They ran into slavers who were stealing kids from villages. Beat them so badly they apparently ran off a cliff rather than face them again. Then there was that bit about smashing Widow's Hill so hard that it's called Twin Peaks now."
"Yup," said the customer. "That's what I heard too."
"Rumors," muttered Sasuke dismissively.
"That Naruto kid must be really strong," said the customer.
"Urk," said Sasuke AND Sakura.
"We NEED a C-Rank mission," said Sasuke to the Hokage.
"Oh dear," said Kakashi.
"But you only have two members of a three-genin team," pointed out Iruka.
"Naruto is out with this other team," said Sakura, looking nervously towards Sasuke. "But the genin he replaced is currently available."
"Oh?" asked the Hokage, seemingly amused.
"Hmm. Team Toraji," said Iruka, flipping through paperwork. "Here we are, Naruto is replacing Kirino Chiba who had to cover for her mother at their deli - family emergency leave forms submitted and approved. She has since filed a 'ready to return to active duty' form."
"Oh?" asked the Hokage.
