"Well," said Naruto. "You didn't exactly forbid me to do this, ya know."
Ibiki sighed. "And you two are?"
"Rock," said the male of the two. "I'm the tank. Tough outer armor, high strength, internal shield mechanisms, ability to adapt my primary weapon to different elements."
"Roll," said the blonde girl. "Primarily a domestic model, but I also have a support suite planned for my role on active missions."
Terutora just yawned.
"I see," said Ibiki. "What of the progress on the various projects?"
"The sentry towers are the current priority," said Naruto. "That change?"
"No, no change," said Ibiki.
"So what are the other teams doing?" asked Naruto, wondering if he was missing out on something exciting.
Ibiki knew better. "From what I saw on my way here, Team 7 is painting fences. Team 8 is cleaning a riverbank. Team 10 is pulling weeds. Team Guy is the only genin team I know of that's outside the village at the moment, and they're a year older than you."
"Oh?" asked Naruto. "What are they doing?"
"Classified," said Ibiki automatically. "Nothing exciting though."
"Oh, I was hoping Tenten would be able to use some of her new accessories," said Naruto.
"Like what?" asked Ibiki.
"Reliance on tools is a weakness," stated Neji Hyuga.
Tenten rolled her eyes as she inventoried.
"Are those new?" asked Guy, indicating a group of colored balls.
"Right," said Tenten.
"More tools that do not require chakra?" asked Lee, understandably curious about such things.
"Yeah," said Tenten. "Grenades. Gray is smoke, red is explosive, green is acid, blue is fire retardant."
"What of the yellow?" asked Lee.
"He calls it 'goop' - and I haven't tried it so I don't know what it does other than that," said Tenten, who then began a systems check on her arm.
Neji made a small noise to indicate dismissing the entire conversation.
"What of the target, Guy-sensei?" asked Lee, giving the various tools an eye before focusing on his team leader.
"We must deal with a potential problem," said Guy. "There have been rumors of a bandit group to the south along the coast."
"We get to smash bandits?!" asked Lee, enthusiasm showing. "At last, targets I can practice against going full out! Neji can make use of his Byakugan to track those attempting to flee or hide, and Tenten can make use of her unique jutsu as well!"
"Not so much," said Guy.
"Oh," said Lee, practically deflating.
"We're just to investigate the situation, laying the groundwork for a later assignment." Guy shrugged. What could he do, that was the mission. He'd rather take on bad guys himself.
