Time's Lament: The Hunt for Red-Eyed Ocher (LIME) [Episode 250116]

by Josh the Aspie

Looking out the window that Genma had thrown Ranma through, Nabiki took a deep breath, sighing. "Well, looks like the beginning of another normal day." She commented, then once again saw the pair of tweed slacks in her hand, which apparently belonged to the woman who had enjoyed Ranma's company last night. "Well, more or less."

"Hey! You could at least let me get dressed first old man!" Came the high pitched cry of girl-type Ranma, wafting in through the window, mixed in with the sounds of combat, and various pauses. "Whadya mean I should have done it when I had the chance? I was trying to deal with important stuff!" Given that Nabiki couldn't hear Genma's signs, and she had more important things to do, she more or less ignored the sparring session. It was a normal event by now any-way.

"Mmmm. Better find that girl before she costs me more money than new girl-type shots could make. Hopefully I can turn her into a new revenue stream. Besides the pictures I got of her and Ranma last night, of course." She muttered to herself as she began her systematic search by looking through the guest room closet. With the futons out there was hiding space available, and this was the last room the girl was seen in.

Well Nabiki didn't find the girl in there, but now she knew how much cash Ranma had on hand, unless the big lug was smart enough to keep separate stashes... which she doubted.

She decided to do a quick circuit of the rooms that were least likely to be filled, before checking on the ones she really didn't want too. First up was her room. No one there, nothing out of place. Even the closet was empty. While inside she grabbed her camera, however.

Next was Kasumi's room. She knocked gently on the door, paused, then peeked inside, before looking around, and checking the closet. "Nope, no one here." she though to herself. "Though I may need to take a peek at that diary later." Shrugging, she opened the window that looked out on the Koi pond, and snapped several pictures. "Hey, just because I'm prioritizing other targets doesn't mean I can't pick low hanging fruit."

That led to Ranma landing on the roof next to the window, coincidentally giving Nabiki several nice full-frontal shots. "Hey Nabiki, do you mind!?" before quickly scrambling along the roof to avoid being landed on by the Panda chasing him. Nabiki quickly backed away from the window as a precaution herself, before replying "Making money? Not at all." She smirked, and ducked back inside her own room to slip the Camera into hiding.

Nabiki paused as she reached Akane's door. She could still hear sobbing inside, even over the sounds of the Saotome sparring match. Nabiki raised a hand to the door, then paused. After a moment's pause, she nodded, and knocked, quietly calling. "Akane?" No answer. She knocked again, and called a little louder. "Akane."

"Go away!" Was the shouted reply.

"Akane, this is important." Nabiki said, testing the handle. It wasn't locked. "I'm coming in." Nabiki announced, even as she opened the door and stepped inside... to find Akane grabbing a shinai, and leveling it at her sister. "Nabiki, get out of my room!"

Wincing, Nabiki took a step back, holding up her hands. "Hey, Ranma said there was a green haired woman in the house. I was just checking to make sure she wasn't in here. He said you saw her."

Akane growled, advancing on Nabiki, and backing Nabiki out of her room. "What would I want with a green headed bimbo like that? I'd chase her out of here too! Now get out and stay out!" She said, before slamming the door, hard.

Nabiki sighed, and shook her head. "Akane. That woman just disappeared. She's obviously a martial artist. If I find her, she might hurt me, or Kasumi. Who would you rather get hurt, us, or her?" Nabiki called back through the door. There was silence, followed by a shifting sound. "3... 2... 1..."

The door opened, and Akane came into view with Mallet in hand. "Let's go." Nabiki nodded and grinned. "Alright, that's the spirit!" Akane leading the way, weapon in hand, the two headed for the stairs, Akane in pajama's, and Nabiki in casual around-the-house clothes.

They paused momentarily at a scuffling sound from the Saotome's room, and managed to catch just the last glimpses of the panda leaving the room again. "Huh. Wonder if Ranma managed to get his clothes in time." Nabiki commented off hand. "The pervert had better have!" Akane declared, and tightened her grip on her mallet, expression growing darker as she stomped down the stairs.

"Hey, speaking of perverts, we check the Happosai's room last, okay?" Nabiki confirmed, watching her sister from behind. "Right!" Akane replied, shuddering slightly. "I don't even want to think of what would happen if she ducked in there." Nabiki nodded.

As a result, the first room they checked on was the kitchen. Peeking past the door, they both let out a slow breath that they didn't even realize they were holding, as they saw Kasumi preparing breakfast, as she always did. Akane glanced around the kitchen to confirm that no one else was in there with her, while Nabiki headed over to her sister. "Hey sis!" Nabiki called, snagging one of the pickled vegetables. "Don't suppose you've seen a tall, green haired woman with a dark tan, and red eyes this morning, have you?"

Kasumi blinked up at Nabiki's question, and thought for a moment. "No, I don't recall having seen anyone like that this morning. And I'm fairly sure I'd remember someone that looked like that. Oh my. Does Ranma have another fiance? Perhaps I'd better make extra for breakfast. Who knows how many people will be coming by."

"Not me, that's for sure. Just call if you see her, okay?" Nabiki asked with a rueful smile as Kasumi hurried to get additional servings of miso paste. Kasumi nodded with a smile. "I'd be happy too."

Next on the list was the family room. After a quick peek inside it, and the storage spaces, the two moved on to the hallway next to the family room. "I'm going to check the bathroom, hopefully we can let Daddy sleep." Akane commented.

Nabiki nodded in reply, as the two passed Soun's room, and checked inside the bathroom. Nabiki noticed that the bathroom wasn't listed as being in use, even as Akane headed inside. After looking around inside, the two sighed. "Well, it's just Daddy and Happosai's rooms left inside." Nabiki commented. "Right. So I guess we know what room to search next."

Moments later the two were knocking on their father's door. Nothing. Another knock. "Daddy?" Akane called. Another knock. "Daddy, it's really important." Nabiki tried this time. The two looked at each-other with trepidation, then as Akane readied her Shinai, Nabiki slid open the door.

Outside, Ranma kicked Genma into the Koi pond, and landed on a nearby rock with satisfaction on his face. "Hah. Take that old man. Serves you right for throwing me outside without my clothes on!" Clothes which Ranma had indeed retrieved, as Ranma was now dressed in his traditional sleep-wear of tank top and boxers.

Then a cry sounded from inside the house. "Daddy, no!"

Ranma's head snapped up and to the side. "Akane!" He turned, and raced into the house, bare feet patting along the floor, red pig-tail flying.

He spotted Akane and Nabiki staring slack-jawed into their father's room, Akane's Mallet held loosely in one hand. Nabiki's jaw worked for a moment before she managed to get out "What on earth?"

Rounding the bend, Ranma looked inside as well, and quickly backed away, making warding gestures. "No way!"
