Hearing the intruding voice and the soft crunch of grass beneath approaching footsteps, the two teenagers turned towards the open back door. “Mom,” Ranma called out in surprise, “What are you doing here?”
Looking slightly taken aback and stung, Nodoka asked back, “A mother can’t come and visit her son?” Hearing her son turned daughter’s sputtering response, the Saotome matron smiled and embraced the girl in a warm hug, “Enough, Ranma. I’m happy to see you.” Her smile grew even warmer as her child returned the hug while muttering the same in return. After a few seconds, Nodoka softly separated from her child to ask again, “Now, what exactly is the Neko-ken and why did it need fixing?”
Seeing her sister’s fiancé start to flounder in her explanation, Nabiki stepped in while thinking, ‘You owe me again, Saotome.’ “During the training trip, Ranma-kun learned a powerful attack called the Neko-ken. The problem was that it left Ranma with a severe phobia of cats and could only be used in a berserker state.”
Standing stiffly at the news, Nadoka turned to her child. “Is this true, Ranma?”
“Yeah,” the young girl replied with a bashful nod before rallying her ego, “but I got that part fixed today! So, it won’t be a problem anymore!”
Blinking at the response, it took a second before mother enveloped child once more. “I’m so proud of you, my son! To fix one’s problems is very manly!” Tightening her hug a fraction more, Nodoka softly repeated, “You make me so proud. Never forget that, Ranma.”
