Tick Tock. The noise of the movement between one second to the next, where time changes and is transformed. This was all it took for people to change from one world to the next, in this case two people. Akane Tendo and Ranma Saotome.
Tick! Ranma's mind was simple. He was in a tug of war between four women, but he favoured Akane with his love. He could feel like a part of her family, and thought when she put away her anger she had a cute smile. Yet if he showed any kind of dating behaviour, the fathers would have him married before he could blink, so he reject it by fighting with her like he did with his own father. Shampoo was a pest, causing him trouble even if she was also cute and they were friendly when romance was not in the air. Plus he was uncomfortable when she showed off her body to him.
Tick! Akane was also in conflict. She knew she was in love with Ranma, but he could be crude and rude. Especially in a way tended to bring out her temper, especially when he did those perverted things. It was also like he was part of the family, with all of the time he had lived with her family. Shampoo was a pain and a threat, willing to attack and kill Akane over Ranma. Putting Akane down or making her feel inferior, as Shampoo had better skills in things Akane thought she had mastered as well as the flat-as-a-board comments from Ranma hitting hard when looking at the busty amazon.
Tock! Ranma didn't notice a difference from his mind set as the changes were subtle and blended with his past. He protected Akane and rescued her from the occational kidnapping, not because of any romantic feelings to Akane but because the family feelings left when Shampoo changed things made him act like a big brother. What brother would allow their sister to remain in danger. Also he keep warey of the other men after Akane, like any brother would when his sister started to date. He was now in love and friends with Shampoo, but he still felt awkward when she was showing off to him and he act like he was not wanting to date her to keep out of getting married fast. Plus the world war three which would be caused by this.
(Shampoo made a mistake in not giving Ranma the urge and/or drive to want to chase after her. Or make him comfortable with the nude form, especially those of purple haired women. Or boosting his lust, or his ability to fall for seduction or...)
Tock! Akane was still against the women after Ranma (Kodachi, Ukyo and Shampoo). Just instead of a lover marking her man, it was a sister who thought no man was good enough for her brother. Which was how she saw Ranma now. This didn't stop her anger to him, but it made her slightly less likely to hit Ranma. Or at least hit him hard.
Tick Tock, two people change and the world is about to go down a different path.
