Mischief Fragment - Gungnir: Alone [Episode 253163]

by Alias49

Naruto used Gungnir to leverage himself up. He was in what looked to be a meadow or grassland. The land was flat, nearly featureless, and covered with pale green under a purple sky. “I thought they said this world was lifeless,” Naruto said.

[No civilians in area, boss,] Gungnir said.

Naruto nodded. So not lifeless, just peopleless.“Thanks, Gungnir.” He looked around again. “I don't suppose you can tell me where everyone else is.”

[Area Search ready, boss.]

“I thought you would say that,” Naruto grumbled. “And the target?”

[Area Search ready.]

“Great,” Naruto groaned. “Very well. Do it.”

[Thank you, boss. Area Search.]

Two dozen orange balls of light shot out of Gungnir and sped towards the horizon in all directions.

Hinata came to with a gentle moan. “Naruto-kun?” she mumbled.

[Apologies, hime.]

“Renard?” Hinata opened her eyes, much to the same sight Naruto did. Like him, she was alone on the strange, grassy plain. “Where is everyone?”

[I do not know, hime,] Renard said.

“Oh,” Hinata said sadly. “Ano, isn't this supposed to be a barren world?”

[Simple grass and bacteria detected.]

“Oh,” she mumbled. “There's no animals?”

[Yes.]

“Is it safe?”

[Humidity above comfort level. Air quality is good.]

So she wasn't going to die from being unable to breathe. That was good. Hinata looked around. “Now what do I do?”

[Area Byakugan, at your service, hime.]

Hinata smiled. “Yes, that's a good idea. Thank you, Renard.”

[At your service, hime.]

Hinata smiled. “Alright. Byakugan!”

[Area Byakugan.]

A dozen lavender streaks shot out from Hinata's staff and vanished over the horizon.

“Ugh,” Kiba groaned. “Teleportation expert my ass.”

“Arf!”

“You said it, Akamaru,” Kiba agreed. Grass, just grass as far as he could see or smell. No animals, no ninja, no mages, just him and Akamaru and a lot of boring grass.

“Rrrrrr.”

Kiba took off his coat. He'd melt under that thing in this humidity. “C'mon boy. We won't catch wind of them standing around here.” Kiba felt the wind at his face and went off at an angle to it, downwind.

Kurenai watched the orange transport space thing flash red and a monstrous chakra threatened to overwhelm her, but she held on. When it faded, a heartbeat and an eternity later, she was on solid ground and tipping over. She caught herself and looked around. Barren grassland, lots of humidity, and Naruko passed out, but no sign of anyone else.

Naruko came to nearly an hour later. “Take it easy,” Kurenai insisted. “You've been out for a while.”

“Where?” Naruko started to ask.

“We're alone, no one and nothing else is around as far as I could risk looking with you still out.”

“Oh,” Naruko said.

“How scattered could Naruto's teleport have been?”

“They're probably only a few miles away,” Naruko said. “But they could be on the other side of the planet. There's no way to know.”

“Great,” Kurenai grumbled. “I don't suppose that telepathy thing is working?”

Naruko shook her head. “Someone needs to shut off the interference from the experiment before telepathy will work.”

“I was afraid of that,” Kurenai sighed. “Well, sounds like our move needs to be finding that experiment and shutting it down. Ready?”

Naruko nodded. “I'm with you, sensei.”

Kurenai smiled and they set off in a direction Kurenai picked at random.
