The Doctor Is In: Not With a Fight Scene… [Episode 254293]

by Gorgo

Tomobiki, the Moroboshi home (local time: mid-morning)…

"Appreciate your friends helping out, Cyclops."

"Don't mention it…er…!"

Ataru smirked as he gazed on the leader of the X-Men. He, his two friends from Tomobiki, Terra, Rampage, Shadow Weaver, the Azuma Gang, the X-Men and the Titans had all been teleported to the front lawn of the Moroboshi home thanks to the Shi'ar, who had gladly shifted their battlecruiser to a new orbital position over Japan, putting Captain Kythran Jubčr's command right over the personal cruiser of Captain Redet Invader. "Don't bother with the battle-name. I'm one of the Nameless; my past-selves always used their real names even after they were Gifted…"

He then perked as a space-warp appeared overhead, allowing three people to emerge. "Akane-chan!" Wildflower called out as Cremisi landed nearby, and then she gaped on seeing the two other people. "Ranma-kun…? Er, Ranma-chan…?"

Mustang chuckled before he moved to introduce the Dragoness to everyone. After hearing the explanation on how the magical clone now calling herself "Hayashi Kanami" came into being, the others nodded. "Freakin' weird…" Wolverine then mused as he crossed his arms. "But for you guys, weird's normal. Right?"

The Terrans-turned-Yizibajohei all jolted on hearing that, and then Prodigy giggled as she gazed on the hunter from Alberta. "Sorry about that, Logan-san…but even if we were all normal Terrans before we were Gifted, hearing us being called 'normal' really feels odd." She then hummed. "Even if we are all alike in one way."

"I take it calling you all 'same' would provoke a fight scene?" Nightwing asked.

Terra laughed as she pulled out a cigarillo to light it up; she had been trying to quit smoking before her memories got wiped, but it was hard. "Well, even if one part of me says you're right about calling us 'same' because we're all metas, the other part wants to drop a rock on your head for bein' so insulting." A hum. "That's a good thing."

"What do you mean, Tara?" Changeling asked.

A sigh. "That's part of the reason Doc Wyszynski became Destructo, Gar. The Show — that's what our past-selves called life in general on Yiziba — was just so BORING in the end. Fight scene after fight scene after fight scene…and what was worse, since there were too many guys on the planet — who, 'cause being in a fight scene made them NOT want to go find a pretty girl to have a pillow scene and make some babies — the population dropped like a rock from the top of the Empire State Building."

"How bad is it, friend Tara?" Starfire asked.

"About ten thousand now."

Silence.

"Oh, my stars and garters! That's below ANY sort of decent self-sustainability level!" the Beast declared as he shook his head.

"So why target Wyszynski first?" Wolverine asked.

"Well…"

"MOROBOSHI!"

Ataru moaned. "What, Mendō? What do you want?"

Hearing that annoyed tone from his hated rival, Mendō Shūtarō growled as he surged for the front gate, which made the Academician — who had turned to walk onto the property with Lightmage to join her sister and the others — gasp. "Stop! The whole…!"

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZARK!

"YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!"

The woman born Elizabeth Wakefield winced as the man born Winston Egbert shook his head in disgust. "The whole property is protected by a force-field that keeps out non-metas." She then smiled at Nightwing. "Or friends of same."

"Actually, I put it up and programmed it to ensure anyone that would wish to harm Ataru-san would be stopped," Prodigy declared proudly. "Isn't it great?"

The Academician hummed as she tapped a control on her goggles to look around the property. A moment later, she nodded. "Nice work," she said, which made Prodigy beam with delight. "It's a pity that my past-selves never cared to try to help you Young Guns get over your power control problems. You would have probably surpassed me."

"Oh, my God! Guys, we're witnessing a moment of HISTORY here!"

Eyes locked on Rampage. "What is that, Jessica Eduardovna?" Colossus asked.

She pointed at her twin sister. "NEVER EVER has ANY Academician EVER admitted that someone could actually be BETTER than her!" she declared.

"Yeah, that IS true, isn't it?" Mustang asked. "But it's a nice change!"

The Academician blushed as she stepped onto the front lawn. "Why, thank you, Ranma," she said, knowing that someone would have put up a probability-altering field to allow them all some privacy. "I suspected you'd become Mustang when you gave it and got a Gift of your own, by the way. That little side wager in the Bet earned me some galleons from the others in the Circle of Thought. So what do you…?"

"MINE!"

That was the Dragoness, Cremisi and Wildflower TOGETHER as they all hugged the One Never to be Tamed. "HEY!" Mustang yelped before he moaned. "Oh, man…!"

Ataru hummed. "And to believe I actually ENVIED Ranma once," he whispered to Terra.

Laughter filled the front lawn from the others gathered there, which was then interrupted by a scream echoing from overhead. "MISTER GROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!"

Ataru blinked, and then he looked up as Invader flew down towards him…only to slam into Prodigy's defensive field around the Moroboshi home!

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZARK!

"YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!"

As the now-nicely roasted Oni warlord collapsed onto the street near the front gate close to an equally roasted Mendō, Ataru sighed. "What do you want, Fatso?"

Invader — who was used to being shocked by his wife whenever she lost her temper and lashed out at him — was much quicker to recover than Mendō. "Mister Groom…that woman…she took my baby girl away…you must rescue her…!"

"I 'MUST?!'"

That made everyone around him balk as a wave of pure rage explode from every point on Ataru's body, such making Raven cry out in agony at being so close to such a cauldron of fury. As Invader gaped in horror at the sight of his would-be son-in-law showing a level of anger that would make even the most passionate Oni cringe in mortal terror, the recently Gifted former resident of Tomobiki walked over to glare intently at the now-quivering Oni warlord, his dark brown eyes glowing with pure power.

"I — must — do — WHAT?" he then asked in a cold voice.

Invader shuddered. "You love her, don't you…?"

Silence.

More silence.

Still more silence.

And then…

…Ataru shook his head. "No. I have NEVER loved her."

And with that, he turned and walked into his house. Terra, Rampage and Shadow Weaver all went after him. The others watched him, and then Mustang sighed. "He's pissed."

"Noticed, huh?" Cyborg stated. "So what do we do with these jerks?"

"I say kill them all," Warwind snarled as she cracked her knuckles, which made people wince. "Behead the whole lot, stick the heads on pikes and teleport them back to their mudhole of a home planet. That aughta get the message out THIS time."

"That sounds like an EXCELLENT idea, friend Tomo," Starfire mused.

"I'll buy inta that!" Wolverine said with a smirk as his claws deployed.

As Invader — as well as Benten and Oyuki — began to cower from the deadly looks coming their way from the Yizibajohei and their friends from America, Carcajou also splayed her ki-claws as Caltrop pulled out her Minigun to cock the action and load bullets into the six barrels in preparation of unleashing a storm of lead on someone. Before something could spark it off, the Academician calmly smiled. "Oh, relax, people. All Haruhi did was to take Lum on a little trip back in time. To learn what Ataru once did for HER!"

Silence.

"Wh-what…?"

That was a white-faced Invader. "I think I have an idea as to why your daughter is being so stubborn in insisting there's a relationship between her and my friend, Captain," she stated. "Ten years ago — shortly after Ataru moved to Yiziba…AND WOULD YOU ALL STOP THAT FINALLY?!" she then snarled as Invader — not to mention Benten and Oyuki — yelped on hearing that name. "He felt someone cry out in pain.

"That someone was your daughter, Captain," she then added.

More silence.

"You mean…Lum's one of…YOU?!" Benten croaked out as Oyuki began to sob.

The Academician chuckled. "No, of course not. She's a meta already, so what would be the use of giving her an extra Gift?" She kept silent about the idea of someone like Tara Markova — a natural-born meta with geo-kinetic powers — actually having her own natural gift augment with a like Yizibajohei Gift as she added, "Though had Ataru NOT intervened ten years ago, your friend would have mostly likely been seen as a CRIPPLE amongst her people, Benten. All thanks to a man named Ganzo dai-Louc."

Still more silence.

"HIM?!" Invader roared as he surged up to his feet. "WHY?!"

She didn't react to his bluster save for a slight twitch of her eyebrow in annoyance. Honestly, why do tall people always like to LOOM over others like that? "I'm fully aware of your allies' rather interesting propensity to replicate anything that catches their interest, either social or technological, Captain. And how those who instigate such changes love to give it a fanatic religious slant as a way to control the masses. This was about a half-year after Lum rescued that Ōgi fellow from the Terrible Swamps. By then, the seeds for the 'Great Awakening' that would usher in the Church of Lum had been planted. And clearly, Mister Ganzo realised that this time, the Niphentaxians had found their 'one true faith.' So he desired to destroy it…

"By destroying its very INSPIRATION!"

"WAIT! Sensei, what are you saying?! There's a CHURCH in Lum-san's name?!"

That was Megane; he and the other Stormtroopers save Perm were still there…though both Chibi and Kakugari were tempted to do as their friend did and finally walk away from it once and for all. "Yes, Satoshi, there is. In the eyes of the Urusians' most powerful allies, Lum has been literally touched by the Divine. In effect, she is a 'living goddess;' the rough equivalent of an arahitogami in Shintō terms. Naturally, all of you who were close friends of hers were ALSO seen as touched by the Divine by association; you are either the 'holy company' or the 'holy apostles' to them. Because of that, the Niphentaxians are desperate to get hold of ANYTHING that inspires them and allows them to CONTINUE TO BELIEVE that you are all divinely blessed. That led to certain…" Here, the Academician frowned. "…illegalities, shall I say, when it comes to your personal space and other matters, such as…"

"DON'T TELL THEM!"

She gazed on Invader, who had turned very pale. Before the Oni warlord could do anything to intimidate the smaller woman — at 168 centimetres tall, Elizabeth Wakefield was rather average-sized for a Californian teenager — a flash of blue-and-white soon found him facing a VERY angry Rampage. Before he could do anything to get clear of this frightening being, her hand snared him by the throat and she began to squeeze, which made him choke. "Let me make this VERY clear, Tubby! NO ONE tells my sister what to do! YOU HEAR ME?! WELL?! ANSWER ME?!" she roared.

"Jessica! Calm yourself, please…!" a visibly wincing Raven pleaded.

"Jess!" the Academician scolded. "He can't talk if you're choking him!"

Rampage blinked, and then she chuckled…which made all the people outside the Moroboshi property watching this save for the non-Terrans laugh. She then tossed Invader aside…which sent him careening into Benten's air-bike, wrecking that and burying her in the process. On seeing THAT, many of the onlookers whooped and cheered; as had been hinted by Soul Searcher earlier, there HAD been a growing level of anger and resentment in many people in Tomobiki when it came to dealing with the aliens that had been haunting their lives for a year. Noting that, the younger Wakefield twin then soared down to the street before she gracefully bowed to the cheering crowd. "I'm here all day, folks! Tip all the waiters!" she called out to them as she waved.

More cheers. On the lawn, Raven was being comforted by Phoenix. "Are you alright, Raven?" the cosmically-powered telepath/psychokinetic asked.

A sigh. "It is so agonising, Jean," the half-demon empath/teleporter explained. "When they are not angered or aroused, their joy is so intoxicating…and yet, when the battle madness seizes them, it burns my heart like nothing I've EVER felt! Not even my father's evil can compare to the passion that any Yizibajohei feels…"

"Your father's Trigon, right?"

That was Soul Searcher. "Yes, Koyomi," Raven affirmed, nodding.

The Nakano native blinked before she sighed. «Harry-kun, could you bring Kagome-chan down here, please?» she then telepathically called out. «We need her.»

«Why?» the Warlock replied from the Redet Glory.

«Raven of the Titans. Her father's been an idiot with her and her empathic guards are taking a battering being close to all of us,» the woman born Mizuhara Koyomi replied.

«On her way.»

A second later, a flash of energy allowed a pretty girl in a snow-white jumpsuit to appear nearby, she clutching a teddy bear. As everyone looked at her, Raven suddenly cried out in relief as a wave of pure PEACE surged past her. She then turned to look herself as the young girl born as Byakudan Kagome came up to gaze intently at her. As the two gazed on each other — and the whole crowd watching this hushed on seeing this, not fully understanding what was going on but realising SOMETHING was happening — the very calm Suiki then turned to hand her teddy bear to Beast. The blue-furred scientist blinked, and then he asked, "Me?" He then perked. "Oh! Of course, my dear."

He took the bear in hand…and then EVERYONE gaped as Suiki turned to place a sisterly kiss on Raven's lips! The empath's eyes went wide for a second at this quite surprising act from the younger girl…before a shocked scream erupted from her as darkness EXPLODED from every point on her body! As everyone else save the Yizibajohei all backed away from this, said darkness moulded into the image of a Trigon-like Raven — red skin and an extra pair of eyes over the normal pair — for a moment before an unearthly HOWL of pure AGONY exploded from that being as she finally disintegrated. And then…

…there was blissful silence.

"You chased away the bad feelings, Kagome-chan?"

Raven — who now found herself in a WHITE version of her normal uniform! — perked on hearing that amused voice, and then she turned to look up. "Ataru…?"

He was standing there now, a tall glass of orange juice in hand. As he handed Suiki the glass so she could drink, Ataru explained, "We call her 'Pureheart' back on Yiziba. She's a cosmic meta like Infinity; she can tap into the Spirit of Innocence that lie within all beings to one extent or another. This one here uses the Japanese reading of the name, 'Suiki,' as her battle-name. She wasn't able to totally erase any potential influence from your father, Raven-san. Then again, that's not so surprising; you DO have his DNA inside you, after all. But whatever he was trying to do to you know has been set back. Looks like you need some help from Onē-san to better guard yourself."

"Or a complete DNA re-write to remove her father's influence from her altogether," Soul Searcher noted. "We'll need the Doll House for that."

"Make her like me, Yomi?" Phoenix asked.

A nod. "At least in this incarnation, Infinity IS agreeable when it comes to that."

A flash of energy. "Hey, guys!"

Everyone turned. "Hey, Ōsaka! There you are!" Caltrop stated. "Where's Rom?!"

The woman born Kasuga Ayumu was wet-cheeked with shame. "I couldn't FIND him, Kagura-chan!" she then moaned. "I couldn't even find Galador! How could that happen, huh?!" She pulled at her hair. "HOW THE HECK DO YOU LOSE A FRICKIN' PLANET OF ALL THINGS?!"

"The Dire Wraiths, maybe," Ataru mused.

Infinity blinked, and then she laughed. Watching the Goddess Who Walked Amongst Men, Raven was shocked at the rapid twist of emotions inside her, going from shame and sadness to delight in the blink of an eye. What in Azar's name IS this being? "Yeah! You're right, Ataru-kun! I should'a checked Wraithworld out! Be right back!"

And with a flash, she was gone! Ataru sighed. "Thus spoke Infinity…"

Suiki giggled. "Ayumu-chan's funny!"

"She is that, isn't she?" he mused.

Chuckles all around as the Beast returned the teddy bear to the young St. Lulim middle school freshman. "So what the hell is this all about, anyway?!" Megane then asked as he gazed once more on the Academician. "What DID happen to Lum-san?"

"Ganzo put a power-dampener on her, 'Toshi," Ataru answered. As Oyuki gasped in shock on hearing that, the Terran-turned-Yizibajohei wanderer added, "As Oyuki there can confirm, one NEVER does that to an Oni CHILD! It practically guarantees that whatever metahuman powers they have or would develop — such as Lum's lightning, her limited telepathy and her flying powers — would be literally BLOCKED from properly maturing as they physically mature. In effect, Lum was made a CRIPPLE in her own society!" As the Stormtroopers and the others listening to this gasped on hearing THAT, Ataru added, "Since I actually had met Lum two years prior — it was an accident with the Central Warp Chamber on Triton when Lum was playing hide-and-seek with Oyuki and her other friends — there was a ki-based empathic bond between us. When Lum sensed her powers were gone and she couldn't fly anymore, she started to cry; being unable to fly on Uru for an Oni is worlds worse than what any of us would feel like if we learned we could no longer WALK." As people nodded, he then sighed. "I went to help her."

"You actually took her to Yiziba?" Starfire then demanded.

As Oyuki gasped on hearing that, Ataru smirked. "Well, Onē-san wasn't willing to travel to Uru to help Lum, Kory-san, so I had no choice but to bring her to the 'scary place;' that's what kids on Federation worlds call Yiziba." Another gasp from Oyuki, which earned her a warning look from Rampage promising immediate pain if she couldn't control herself finally. "Fortunately, since the exposure to the power-dampener had happened just minutes before — I had one of the old Academician's PAAs with me at the time to take me there — Onē-san was able to straighten Lum around. She also put a block on Lum's memories to prevent people from learning she had actually been on Yiziba and she was sent back home. Total turn-around time was about thirty minutes. Quite easy to explain away as someone spending time out playing by herself."

"Damn!" Kakugari breathed out.

"You did the right thing, man," Chibi stated.

Others nodded. "So what do you intend to do, Ataru?" Megane asked.

A sigh. "Since she probably does deep down remember our encounter back when she was hurt — just like I subconsciously remembered things about my life before the MIBs decided to play rugby with my memories — I can understand why she might want to still hold a relationship with me. But this is NOT my home. My home is a cabin on Yiziba. If she wants me…she has to pursue me THERE, 'Toshi. Not here."

With that, the Academician handed him one of her PAAs. Ataru took it…and then vanished from Tomobiki once and for all. As people who were watching this gaped at his sudden departure, the Academician took a deep breath. "Well, at least that little problem's finally resolved," she mused before gazing on her sister. "Are you going to spend some time with him? After all, you got a year to catch up with him."

"True, true, I do," the younger Wakefield twin stated. "You need me in case these morons start being stupid again?" She thumbed the shuddering Oyuki in emphasis.

"Oh, don't worry about it, Jess," her elder sister declared; fortunately for both of them, the Academician's personal probability field generators were always active to ensure private conversations. "If they decide to be nekul'túrnyj like Tat'yana loves to say all the time, I'm sure Tomo there will be able to deal with it on her own."

She thumbed Warwind in response. The wild fighter perked on hearing that, and then she looked over. "Oi! What's going on, Liz?! Something wrong?"

"No, Tomo. Just be on standby for a good fight scene if we need you," the Academician said as she winked at the strongest of the Azuma Gang.

Hearing that, Warwind whooped. "YAY! FIGHT SCENE!"

Rampage laughed as Oyuki began to quake…

Some minutes later…

A dark opening in space and time appeared near the front gate of the Moroboshi home, revealing a downcast Redet Lum. Coming out with her was the Weaver, who had a neutral look on her face. As Oyuki — who was now helping both Invader and Benten recover from Rampage going wild on the former — gasped on seeing the Mistress of Time and Space now accompanying her friend, the woman born Suzumiya Haruhi smiled as she winked at the Academician. "She's seen the light on a few things," the reality-warper from a small town in Hyōgo Prefecture north of Kōbe then stated. "I have the cobalt bomb stashed somewhere nice and safe. So we can use it if we have to."

She gazed on Oyuki in emphasis, which made the Neptunian cringe. "What about all of Lum's so-called 'most faithful' that live here in Tomobiki?" the Academician asked.

"Back on Phentax Two where they belong," the Weaver stated. "My friend from the Data Overmind was more than happy to delete the necessary memories from their heads to keep their leaders back home guessing as to what happened and why."

"Is that gonna keep these creeps away?" Wolverine then asked; he had stepped off the front lawn of the Moroboshi home to keep a close eye on the three other aliens while the Mistress of Time and Space dealt with Lum. "If they're religious nut-jobs…!"

"Don't worry about that," the Weaver then declared. "If they misbehave, I can make their fleet go 'boom.' AND cripple their economy in a way they'll NEVER recover from."

A chuckle. "You're my kinda evil, darlin'."

"Naturally. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go back and finish fixing up the mess I was subconsciously made to create back in my home town over the last year."

And with that, she walked back through the opening she had created in the very fabric of Reality to return back home, said tear closing behind her. As Lum slightly flinched on sensing the Kansai native vanish, Oyuki got up and walked over to her. "Lum-chan! Are you alright?! Were you hurt?! What in Kōri's Name did that thing…?!"

"Oyuki."

The Neptunian princess jolted to a stop. "Lum…?"

Lum gazed at her, revealing eyes that were much older than they had been before this whole madness had begun. "I'm alright. She just…showed me what Darling's life was REALLY like before the Tag Race. All the girls he met and helped get Gifts over the years. Not to mention Harry-san, too. Some of them were in a really bad way when he got to them. He…" She closed her eyes as tears appeared. "Why…?"

"I can't answer that right now," a sympathetic voice then stated. "But be assured, Lum, we will get to the bottom of what provoked this in the first place."

Oyuki awked as the Academician came up to join them. Lum didn't react; then again, she had just "seen" how Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield — who had been in the "true twin sister" stage of their lives that identical twins the galaxy over often experienced — had found Moroboshi Ataru outside Sweet Valley five years ago, having slipped on a rock and twisted his ankle. How that meeting — and how Jessica had helped Ataru splint his leg so he could get back to his sister Negako so she could properly mend it — had provoked a latter set of visits in the wake of the horrid battle between Superman and Doomsday in Metropolis to entice the Wakefield twins to truly become something special. And how Jessica's Gifting had saved MILLIONS of lives in Indonesia from a rampaging tsunami a year later. Unlike the Neptunian princess — much less Lum's father and her best friend from Fukunokami — Lum had SEEN how the relationship between Moroboshi Ataru and Jessica Wakefield had developed…until it had been almost DESTROYED.

All for me…!

Lum took a deep breath. "Darling went back to his cabin, didn't he?"

"Yes," the Academician stated.

"Did your sister and the others go with him?"

"Yes."

A sigh. "He'll be alright, will he?"

"I think so," the woman born Elizabeth Wakefield stated as she reached over to squeeze Lum's shoulder in reassurance. "You are still his friend, Lum. Never doubt that."

A faint smile. "I want more."

"Deep down, I can't blame you," the Academician stated. "But if you truly want to be with Ataru, you have no choice now but to BECOME like him!" She then pulled her hand away. "And while he would welcome you back into his life again, he won't tolerate being asked to defer to people who don't hold his respect. You can't ask that of him now."

A shake of the head. "No, I can't. Not after what he did for me." Lum then sighed before gazing on a house that still felt like home to her…and yet had not been a home at all, either for her or for the man she loved. "What about the house?"

"We'll arrange for it to be sold and dismantled. It'll need to be cleared of all the necrotic energies Margo unleashed when she came to kill Ataru's parents before that can happen; no sense in allowing something like THAT to be a danger to anyone else."

Lum blinked. "Why did Darling do that?"

"Excuse me?"

"Help that psycho killer get a Gift of all things?!"

The Academician smirked as she considered her near-physical twin from Long Island. "True, Margo is quite anti-social and very deeply disturbed mentally…but she is also a child abuse victim. No different than Ryūnosuke. Ataru may only have suffered verbal abuse from his parents, but he loathes ALL child abusers. Besides, Doctor Death would come back one way or another. Best it be done under controlled circumstances."

A nod. "She's like Tara-san, you mean."

"Yes."

"What about those androids made in the image of Darling's parents?"

"Chiyo-chan has them now," the Californian-born meta stated as she nodded towards Prodigy. "She'll analyse their memory banks to learn who was involved in this from S.H.I.E.L.D. and the people who tapped into what Margo did to 'bring them back,' and then we'll go visit them and make them understand what they did wrong."

"Kill them all for all I care," Lum spat out.

A smirk. "There are things much worse than death."

A snort. "True."

"Lum…"

That was a pale Invader, who had been shocked to see his own precious child have a civil conversation with one of the You Know Whos. "Captain, I'm sure that right now, you want nothing more than to get your daughter back to your home on Uru," the Academician then stated. "I suggest you do just that. Be on your way back to Uru by nightfall local time; that should give Lum the chance to say good-bye to people here. After the sun sets in Tōkyō, I will NOT guarantee you will be safe. Also warn Prince Rupa that his kind are NEVER permitted to return to this solar system again. If anyone DOES come here from Yaminokuni even by ACCIDENT, I will see to it that their whole planet will be rendered LIFELESS for their race! If he wishes respect, he best start acting like a proper prince SHOULD act. Ditto with his would-be wife."

And with that, she walked back onto the Moroboshi property as we now…
