It was flipping through where she noticed two pages seemingly stuck together about three-quarters of the way through. When she looked closer though, she noticed a seal-mark scratched into the paper. It was a simple enough one though, she broke it in under two minutes. Then the pages were able to be pulled apart.
Sakura's brow furrowed and she frowned. It was a complex diagram, but at the center was a single sigil. Her finger traced it as she tried to understand what it was she was looking at.
She realized her mistake a moment too late.
The feeling of Wrongness caused Naruto to wake instantly and Sasuke to abruptly notice that Sakura hadn't moved in several minutes.
A thrown pebble caused the bunshin to puff away, and the fake book suffered the same fate a moment later.
Naruto and Sasuke glanced at each other, then Naruto headed directly towards what he knew he'd find.
Kakashi joined them a moment later.
"Thought you were off doing something," said Naruto as they went.
"I was, then I felt that. What happened?" Kakashi already had kunai drawn.
"Sakura used a henge and substitution in order to take Naruto's book after he fell asleep doing that leaf exercise," answered Sasuke, betraying how rattled he was by getting expositionary.
The location was obvious. There was a big iron gate hanging in midair, ghostly light playing out of it, and a book on the ground.
"There's the book, but where's Sakura?" asked Kakashi, who then winced. "She wouldn't go in there, would she?"
"Not willingly," agreed Naruto. "This is going to be a bit tricky."
"This is a gate to the afterlife?" asked Kakashi, thinking that 'a bit tricky' was a ludicrous degree of understatement.
"No, between life and the afterlife is the spirit realm." Naruto considered the Gate. "I'll have to go alone. Someone's got to guard the Gate in case something comes out."
"Then you should be the one to stay here, you're the only one who can close a Gate," pointed out Kakashi.
"No, it'll close on its own," said Naruto. "Which is one reason we can't spend more time talkin' about it. I got maybe an hour before it closes."
"Can't you just reopen it?" asked Sasuke.
"No telling where it'll open up," said Naruto. "Spirit realm is a big place. See, door's closed a little bit already."
Sasuke looked at the door and figured it had moved perhaps the width of a finger since their arrival. "Go. We'll keep anything from coming through."
"Gone," said Naruto, who fit words to action as he took a running leap through the Gate.
