"So it's a girl," said Naruto, shrugging. "We can use Freeze now."
"So, Water card round two tomorrow," said Sakura.
"Hn," agreed Sasuke.
"Kakashi isn't here, you don't have to be that annoying," stated Naruto.
"I was agreeing with her," said Sasuke.
"I was thinking," began Sakura. When Naruto opened his mouth to say something, she simply glared and raised a fist. Naruto carefully closed his mouth again.
"What?" asked Sasuke.
"What kind of missions have we been doing lately?" asked Sakura. "Walking dogs. Painting fences. Cleaning trash. Topping onions. Pulling weeds."
"Yeah, if it weren't for going after cards and working out at the castle, our ninja careers would be kinda lame," admitted Naruto. He brightened a moment later. "Of course, we HAVE been collecting cards and doing stuff at the castle - so we ARE making progress right?"
"After we get Water, maybe we should ask for something a bit better," suggested Sakura.
"Hn," said Sasuke, and at Sakura's glare elaborated a bit. "Agreed. Something new would be good. Though I didn't expect you to complain about these D-Ranks."
"We can't cut loose too much in the village, and the castle has areas to train but real-world training would be better," explained Sakura.
"Huh," said Sasuke, nodding.
"Well, THAT was anti-climatic," noted Sasuke.
"My plan worked, didn't it?" asked Sakura, sounding a bit put-upon by this. "We had to lure it out away from the water purification plant so it couldn't escape underground, then cut off retreat while attacking with Freeze."
"Ne ne, Sakura-chan, it got us the Water as well as the Freeze now," said Naruto as held up the card.
"Why are all the cards becoming so..." asked Sakura, indicating that the girl depicted on the card was a bit top-heavy.
"I dunno," admitted Naruto. "But I figure if we ever have to unleash one on Kakashi-sensei, he might be too busy staring to dodge."
"Why would you unleash one of your card-jutsu on Kakashi-sensei?" asked Sakura.
"For being late, for not training us," said Naruto, counting off possible reasons on his fingers, "for forgetting something we need to know and telling us after the fact..."
"The sewer-blockage clearing mission," grumped Sasuke. He'd smelled like something unpleasant all day. A ninja's life was hard and often ended in violence, he could understand that. Spending the day smelling like THAT had not been appreciated. Especially when, at the end of the day, Kakashi had suddenly remembered that there HAD been ventilation fans added and they could have used fire at a distance after all.
Sakura was clearly remembering the same mission from her expression. "Uhm. Yeah. Objection withdrawn."
