Restart Deluge! Unfamiliar of Zero: A little bit familiar [Episode 257025]

by Kestral

The smoke was unusual, drawing remarks from at least two of the assembled students. Normally the smoke from one of Louise's spells going awry was just a billowing shapeless mass.

This time, however, the smoke formed distinctive shapes. Was that some kind of serpent shape, twisting and coiling in mid-air? That bit of smoke that spread wings and posed was a bird of some unfamiliar kind. Was that not an ox? And finally a tiger? Each shape that erupted from the cloud ran briefly around the courtyard, two managing to run OVER Kirche (to Louise's considerable amusement) before finally disintegrating.

The smoke cloud that spawned these beasts finally dissipated itself, leaving an empty space.

"Well, that was unusual to begin with, but as usual the ends are that Louise the Zero managed zero results," observed Kirche.

"Ahem," squeaked a voice.

Everyone blinked and looked a bit closer.

"That's a mouse?" asked Montmorency.

"Wearing an odd sort of open-front jacket," noted Guiche.

"With a headband," noted Pierre.

"And an itty-bitty pair of swords?" noted Andre.

"So... Louise got a common mouse," said Kirche about to dismiss the little beast as inconsequential.

"Growf?" asked Flame, Kirche's salamander.

"Skeeki," squeaked the mouse.

"Griff?" responded Flame.

"Skii," squeaked the mouse, bowing once. "Squeak squeak squeaker."

"Geff!" responded Flame.

"Flame?" asked Kirche.

"You shouldn't get along with Kirche's familiar, she's an enemy!" Louise scolded the mouse.

Whippppp! K-chunk!

Louise blinked, turned towards Kirche, and noted the Germanian was currently pinned to the wall of the courtyard by several knives piercing her clothing. When she turned back towards her familiar she noted the mouse about to throw another knife (that was bigger than he was). "STOP! Not that kind of enemy!"

"Louise, you're going to have to exercise more control over your familiar," noted Colbert.

"You really don't see many mice that can throw knives," complained Louise, scowling on the outside. On the inside she was cheering. Not only had she summoned a familiar, but it was one that had managed to shut Kirche up!

"Well, finish the ritual," said Colbert. "Then you can get acquainted with your familiar."

"I..." Louise glanced down at the mouse, who was holding up a small rectangle of white cardboard. "Eh?"

"What's it say?" asked Kirche, curious as she was slowly pulled from the wall.

"I don't know, it's some weird style of writing," said Louise. "At least I think it's writing."

"What about the other side?" asked Colbert.

"Huh?" Louise flipped it over. "I can't read this side either. I..." Louise flipped the card back. "Waitaminute. This isn't the same writing that was on here just a minute ago."

The little mouse folded his arms in front of himself and nodded a couple of times.

"Abukunai. Ninja Mouse," read Louise. "Wielder of 108 Special Ninja Skills."

"Well, whatever it is, it's just a mouse," began Kirche. "In fact, I -"

Whippppppp. K-thunk!

"Mffff!" protested Kirche, her mouth currently distended by an apple that had somehow appeared in it. "MFFF!"

Louise was careful to wipe the grin off her face as she looked at the little mouse. "One of your '108 Special Skills' is a 'shut up Kirche' skill?"

Still with his arms folded in front of himself, the little mouse tried to look completely innocent, whistling a little tune.

"My name is Louise Françoise Le Blanc de La Vallière. Pentagon of the Five Elemental Powers; bless this humble being and make him my familiar."

"Squeak?" asked the mouse as she picked him up with one hand, tapped him with a wand and then brought her lips down to kiss the top of his little head.
