Sakura, on the other hand, had a backpack - which had at least two scrolls - one in each side-pocket. How many others were packed inside the large thing he was entirely unsure of.
Sasuke had a single large scroll visible, and had two long-knives of some sort. Each was strapped to a bracer arrangement on his forearms.
"What exactly did you pack?" asked Kakashi after the usual pronouncement of lateness and his protest of extenuating circumstances.
"Oh, just the usual stuff," said Naruto, reaching into his jacket and withdrawing a single storage scroll.
"Study materials, emergency kit, changes of clothing, camping gear," began Sakura.
"Found these in Naruto's secret castle," said Sasuke. "Practice."
"First aid kit, several kunai, a different set of clothing," continued Sakura.
"Naruto has a secret castle? I've never heard of it," said Kakashi.
"Secret," pointed out Sasuke.
"Point," agreed Kakashi, deciding he'd try and figure out if this was some sign of humor on Sasuke's part later.
"Premade traps - I found a book on simple ones that can be stored in a scroll and then pulled out and placed when they're needed," continued Sakura. "Blank scrolls, boxed ink and brush set..."
"You know, this is a mission - not a vacation," noted Kakashi. "You really don't need all that."
"A book I'm studying on useful but minor jutsu that I'm having trouble getting to work," said Sakura as she indicated a large thick brass-bound book.
"Oh, is that so?" asked Kakashi. "What kind of jutsu?"
Sakura held out a small pendant in one hand, making hand signs with the other, then said something that sounded as if it were from some strange foreign language. The pendant twitched and shifted, lifting off slightly to one side.
Kakashi blinked and examined more closely. No, it was not a particular muscle twitch of Sakura's that got the pendant moving on its chain. "What is that supposed to do?"
"It's supposed to point to something lost," said Sakura, putting the pendant away again. "Unfortunately I can't get it to work the way it is supposed to work."
"Ah," said Kakashi, thinking that maybe they'd had one too many 'find Tora' missions.
"The rest are like that," said Sakura. "They're called 'cantrips' for some reason. One to extinguish small fires, another to clean windows, some are to mend small breaks or cuts in equipment, and things of that nature. They're suggested for 'apprentices' of some kind."
"Well, since we're all here and apparently ready, let's get going then," said Kakashi with a nod.
Hibana wheeled overhead, briefly visible through the forest canopy then gone again.
"Your dragon isn't giving our position away, is it?" asked Sakura as they walked along.
"I don't think so," said Naruto thoughtfully. "I mean, she's going over us every so often - but I get the feeling she's covering a lot of territory."
"Well, that's good," said Sakura, apparently mollified.
