Mischief Fragment - Replay: Mimung, the Breaker Blade [Episode 257994]

by Kestral

He saw it. The sword made by a legendary smith to protect his son. He knew how it had been made and what it could do.

Unfortunately, this hit Naruto's consciousness a bit too hard and he collapsed in the wake of his Scan going off.

"So," said Sakura's voice from really far away. "He's basically in shock?"

"Yeah, even if we get him moving he's not going to be that functional," said an unfamiliar woman's voice.

"He's never all that functional." Sasuke. Of course.

"I'm awake," groaned Naruto.

"He's recovering from that so quickly?" said the unfamiliar girl's voice. No, wait. He'd heard it last night, just before THAT had appeared.

"Well, he IS an Uzumaki." Kakashi-sensei?

Naruto slowly sat up, rubbing his head. "Owie."

"Ominous indeed," intoned the little priest from where he was stirring a pot.

"What was it that knocked you out anyway?" asked Sakura, not quite getting it.

"I automatically used Scan," said Naruto. "I wasn't ready for Mimung."

"Mimung?" asked Sakura.

"A sword made of meteoric steel, forged by the master weaponsmith Wayland Smith at the pinnacle of his craft," answered Naruto absently as he slowly got to his feet. "The sword was made for and wielded by his son. Its power is to Break the armor or weapons of opponents, shattering them and leaving them useless."

"That... sounds useful," admitted Sasuke. If Naruto could produce such a thing and then hand it off to someone like himself who had actually trained in kenjutsu...

"Can't reproduce it yet," said Naruto, looking at his hand and clenching it a couple of times. "I've got the chakra for it, but it needs something else."

"Experience with your technique, which means more training," supplied Kakashi. "I've got some chakra control exercises to teach you three, that'll help."

"In the meantime," said Rin. "Shouldn't we be going?"

"Yes, mission first, training during," said Kakashi, producing a kunai. "Naruto. Scan this."

"It's a kunai, Kakashi-sensei," sullenly reported Naruto. "You bought it from an outfitter in town two years ago."

"And?" asked Kakashi.

"HEY! They charged you less than half what they charge me!" declared Naruto, looking a bit outraged.

"Not what I was looking for," prompted Kakashi.

"The last time you used it you were playing some game with a guy with weird eyebrows and a bad haircut," tried Naruto.

"That would be Maito Gai and the game was mumblypeg, or at least a variant of the game," said Kakashi.

"Wait," said Sakura, looking back and forth between the two. "You mean his kekkei genkai lets you know the history of an object?"

"As long as its a weapon, yeah, but I can't get that much out of it without really studying it," began Naruto, rubbing his head again.

WHONK!

"Ow!" indicated Naruto.

"You IDIOT! Do you have any idea how useful that could be to someone investigating a fight? You could look at a weapon and tell who used it, where it was bought, and how much... he's unconscious again?"

Kakashi sighed and looked at Sakura with his one visible eye. "Sakura. Hitting someone with a migraine in the head is NOT conducive to them being rational and listening to your argument."

"Oh," said Sakura.

Sasuke sighed. Why was he surrounded by idiots?

Naruto had gradually gotten better over the hours since they'd left the shrine, but was still a bit woozy as he tried to recover from all the shocks.

"Kunai, kunai, kunai, substandard kunai with a metal stress line in the handle, kunai, razor wire," muttered Naruto as he went through a small supply of equipment that Kakashi had provided at the start of this boat trip.

"Hmmm," said Kakashi, plucking the 'substandard' one out of the pile and eyeing it. Taking it in both hands he twisted, and after a moment the kunai snapped in a manner that metal really wasn't supposed to.

Plunk! went the pieces of kunai into the water.

Naruto looked over the side briefly. "Broken kunai. Rusty harpoon."

Sakura carefully leaned over her side of the boat and looked down. Too dark and too murky to see through. "So it's line of sight. You don't have to actually SEE the weapon."

"I think I have to see it to get details," said Naruto after a bit. "I also think there's some kind of range but I'm not sure what it is."

"Try scanning around us," suggested Sakura, making a wide gesture at the fog around them.

"Uhm, there's a tachi over that way," said Naruto, squinting at a section of fog.

"Itachi?!" growled Sasuke.

"A tachi, a longsword, no special properties," said Naruto. He blinked a couple of times, then rubbed his eyes. "Kinda hurts trying to do that."

"Oh," said Sasuke, losing much of his interest.

Naruto let out a deep breath, then quickly looked around, paused, then came to a different particular patch of fog. "Kubikiribocho?"

Kakashi stiffened. "Oh?"

"That's all I got, it's gone again. Out of range or something," said Naruto.

"That isn't much," said Sakura.

"It's more than we had, and any forewarning we get is better than none at all," said Kakashi, taking his various weapons back and stowing them into place.
