Naruto could see more than that.
The spear was more than a simple weapon, it was a focus for Earth Element chakra. With it, a simple Earth Wall could be the size of the walls surrounding Konoha. With it, Earth Spear could become a wall of spikes.
Put serious Kage-level techniques into it? Someone could raise islands out of the ocean.
He saw it. Naruto saw how the outer shell contained it. He saw the materials of the casement. He saw the precisely aligned metals and crystals inside. He saw the way chakra fed in would amplify and focus and build.
In the stories, this was the spear that was wielded by a god to strike the ocean floor and raise a chain of islands.
Seeing it, Naruto could believe it.
"Ugh, what the heck?" asked Naruto. "What was the point of me seeing something like that?! It was way too powerful. I ain't never gonna be able to make one of those!"
"You have a better idea?"
"Uhm, yeah," said Naruto. "How about this?"
"Turn friends into magical weapons? Done that. Other timeline."
"Oh. Well what about -"
"That too."
"I didn't finish."
"Didn't need to. The lesser weapons thing was done elsewhere and things went fairly well too. At least initially."
"But this spear thingie is too complicated," complained Naruto. "Even if I duplicate the metal-ceramic containment, the crystals and metal arrangement inside? It's WAY too complicated!"
"Point. Doing it in a hurry while distracted might be a bit much to expect. How about something like this?"
A rod about the length of his forearm appeared.
Naruto looked at it. Saw it. Saw the history. "A light saber built to work on chakra? I dunno."
"Kind of a combination of light-saber, Gourry's Sword Of Light, and a chakra blade whose name I've momentarily forgotten. In your hands, it would have a Sealing element as well - courtesy of your mother's line and her chakra chains."
"Still kinda overly complicated," pointed out Naruto. "I mean, if I got warning - fine. I could make that a lot easier than the spear before a fight. If I got ambushed or something? Ain't no way."
"Are you going somewhere specific or just thinking out loud?"
"Thinking about it," admitted Naruto. "What about..."
"Oh ho. That's an idea."
"Can you let me finish what I'm trying to say here?" complained Naruto.
"Oh, not you. I had another idea. Without scrapping the Weaponmaster concept too."
"I shudder to ask," said Naruto.
"Look, the Sharingan has all these upper-level techniques related to Japanese mythology. Sort of an expy since the Elemental Countries aren't Japan, but that's beside the point. So why not a SIMILAR group of techniques from another mythic standpoint? Maybe Norse or Greek."
"Nor-what?" asked Naruto.
"So the spear that creates islands for Earth element," mused the cat. "Maybe Mjolnir for Lightning? Zeus' Thunderbolts? Nah - those are one shot. What to do for fire though?"
"What are you talking about?" demanded Naruto.
"Or no - better. One shot techniques. That's more in keeping with the setting anyway as well as provide you a better rivalry with the Sharingan. Though with the eye-techniques out there, some other method of use... bloodline dependent? Item dependent? Still, both items and bloodlines are regularly stolen in this setting so... soul-linkage?"
"I don't get half of what you're mumbling about," confessed Naruto.
"That might work. Nothing but to do but try I guess. I could do a future-reading but that gets boring. So let's go with THIS."
KA-CHUNK! went reality.
"What just happened?" asked Naruto. "I got the feeling something changed."
"Look at your forearms."
"Huh?" asked Naruto, who then checked. "When did I get tattoos?!"
"Those are the ones you currently have. More would be unlocked later after you accomplish specific things."
"What do you mean?" asked Naruto.
"Look. You have the Weaponmaster thing going on. I didn't bother to remove it and you might find something useful to use it on later. In the meantime you also have these specific weapons you can summon. The Earthrending Spear, Ame-no-nuhoko. The hammer of thunder, Mjolnir. Others, well, it requires unlock conditions."
"Details?"
"Giving you all the details would be boring. Much better to watch you stumble around trying different things."
"Gee. Thanks."
"Sarcasm. There's hope for you yet."
"Gee. Thanks."
"Just for that, I'll throw a little something else in."
"Let me guess, something lame?" tried Naruto.
"Nah. Something more in keeping with your mother's abilities."
"My mom?" asked Naruto.
"Let's see. Magical chains. 'Nebula Chain', 'Chain Of Fools', 'Chain of Responsibility', 'Chain Letter', 'Chain Lightning', 'Chain of Command', 'Golden Binding Chain Of Gilgamesh', 'Chain Of Custody', 'Serpent Chain', 'Chain of Duty', 'Chains Of Love', 'Chain of Righteousness', 'Hel-Forged Chains', 'Spellbreaker'," said the cat, reading from a long scroll. "Shibari Chains Of Submission? Lots of good possibilities here."
"What's it do?" asked Naruto, curious despite himself.
"Here we go. This one's perfect for you."
Naruto eyed the little chain tattoo that now encircled his left forearm. "What's this?"
"That particular chain happens to be the-"
