Sasuke was falling back to guard the client, muttering about how he apparently had to be the sane and responsible one.
"Wood Release: Entanglement!" tried Naruto, throwing both hands forward.
Vines and branches erupted from the ground, reaching for Zabuza who leapt up and twisted in mid-air to keep from getting grabbed.
Sakura put one foot on the sword, grabbed the metal with her hands spread wide and strained. Muscles showed under her chrome skin as the massive sword began bending under the pressure.
Zabuza landed on the water, standing on it as if it were solid ground and assessed the situation. Getting his sword back was obviously a priority. Hands went through seals quickly, thickening the fog to where seeing more than a foot away from one's face would require a special jutsu or senses.
"Wood Release: Palisade!"
A quick series of movements determined what the genin with the wood techniques had done. Which was to set up a wooden barrier that completely enclosed the target, as well as the wood-user and the non-metal genin. The walls were fairly thin and uneven though - speaking to the inexperience of the wood-user.
Sharingan Kakashi was attacking, which caused Zabuza to retreat backwards over the water. Though not TOO far as he'd heard the rumors about the Wave Devil.
"Not worried about the Wave Devil?" asked Kakashi, who was still on the shore but tracking the sound.
"I'm the only devil you need to concern yourself with, Copycat," responded Zabuza, making six water clones and sending them off to confuse things.
"Careful you idiots!" said Gato as the large clock was being unlashed from the barge. "That's worth more than all of you combined!"
"It's just a clock," said one of the mercenaries, raising his voice to be heard over the ticking.
"That is completely self-winding through fuuinjutsu and has an especially loud ticker," said Gato. "A constant reminder that wealth has power of its own. Hahahaha!"
CRASH! SNAP!
There was much screaming and mercenaries running for the safety of shore, one managing to do a VERY good imitation of the tree-climbing jutsu despite having only normal civilian levels of chakra and no training.
"Sir?" asked one of the mercenaries. "That was the Wave Devil. I believe it ate your clock."
"Y-y-y-you!" stuttered an angry Gato, rushing off to the dock in order to thrust one hand out over the water and extend one finger. "You stupid fish! How dare you eat my clock! And wreck a boat! Don't you know who has the real power here?!"
SNAP!
"Fast bugger, ain't it?" asked the mercenary who had the presence of mind to pull a now-screaming Gato back away from the water and start bandaging the bleeding stump where a hand had been just a moment ago.
"I'll get that damn fish! I'll get..." Gato managed before passing out due to blood loss.
The mercenary considered the passed out boss for a moment before looking around. "Okay. Paid time off for the rest of the day while I get the boss to a medic."
There was much cheering answering that declaration, though for some odd reason nobody was going anywhere near the water.
"Can't see a darn thing," noted Naruto.
Sasuke nodded.
"How about you?" asked Naruto.
Sasuke sighed. "No."
"'No, you can't see either' or is that a 'no, you can see fine'?"
"Can't see my hand in front of my face, and don't talk - that just gives the enemy something to orient on," said Sasuke, pitching his voice as low in volume as he could.
"Oh."
"Reinforce the walls and put a roof on," suggested Sasuke.
"Wood release! Wooden Fortress!"
"Can you do it quieter?" asked Sasuke.
"Uhm, maybe?"
Sasuke growled a little at Naruto not being useless but still being an idiot.
The mist began clearing inside the enclosure after a few seconds.
Naruto blinked as the dimmed light was still easier to see in. "Oh. Better."
Sasuke looked up at where the roof had a few holes but was still better than nothing. The air continued to clear for whatever reason, but he could see fog rolling around just past the edges of the roof.
"Who put this wall here?" asked Sakura's voice from outside.
Naruto opened his mouth. Sasuke covered it.
"Mff?" asked Naruto.
"What's the password, Sakura?" asked Sasuke.
"Password?" asked Sakura's voice. "Uhm. Oh screw it."
Something heavy struck the wood, then climbed up it.
"That's not Sakura, dobe," whispered Sasuke. "She's too heavy to climb this."
"Figured it out I guess," said Sakura's voice before it changed to a different voice altogether. "Well, let's see where to strike first. There are so many instant-kill targets on a human body."
CRANG!
"What the hell did you do to my sword?!"
"It looks more like a potato peeler now."
"ARRGGGHHH!"
"Sakura, you shouldn't needlessly antagonize the enemy missing-nin."
"Why, what can he do as long as I've got my Heavy Metal form running?"
CLANG!
"Ouch! Hey that hurt!"
"What did he do?"
"I stabbed her in the eye with a kunai. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to do much in the way of damage, except to the kunai. Maybe if I just do this! Water Release: Flash Flood!"
"You missed!"
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
"No, I was hydrating the ground underneath you so that I could kick you along the ground and out into the water. I'm betting you can't float."
"Forget about someone?" asked Kakashi's voice.
"This reminds me," said Naruto quietly. "There was this TV show where they ran out of budget but still had episodes, so they basically had most of the episode take place in a cave with the lights out."
Sasuke looked out at the billowing white just outside the enclosure. "Your point?"
"Just reminds me of that, there's a big fight going on over there, but it's all in a thick fog," said Naruto with a shrug. "If this had happened on TV, I'd be betting that was what was happening."
