Things had immediately started going wrong.
After crippling and muting the boy, they'd removed the potential influence of the paralysis wards just to be sure. The boy had thrashed around just with torso and neck muscles, but he'd been secured into place. No, they'd been sure that he'd be no problem even if he had turned out to be some powerful mage.
The containments were powerful enough that had they managed to get a prince among the generals of the dark forces captive, they could have held it.
Unfortunately, M'kraw the orc Warlock saw the containment absolutely fail to anchor the demon. The barbs of the spells slid along it without any purchase at all. The first two containment fields after those measures simply winked out as four tails lashed out and left gouges in the stone and wood of the building.
The growing demon completely obliterated the containment building without even seeming to notice, until nine tails were lashing about it and it cast a shadow over the entire Drag.
Fortunately it seemed to ignore him as it waded through the city, taking the occasional shot at those attacking it and leaving street-wide gouges in the city.
Unfortunately, that was when someone brought a large mace down upon his head.
"Got him."
"Jiraiya! He's over here! We have to hurry before the guard gets reorganized."
"What did they do to him?!"
"Took his arms, legs, and tongue off. As soon as we can get somewhere we aren't going to be interrupted, I'll start repairing the damage."
"...You can restore cut-off limbs?"
"Yes, but it requires a lot of effort and I can't be interrupted. So help me out here, will you?"
"I have got to learn some of this. Let's get going then."
"It's out of Ogrimmar, smashed the wall and is now obliterating a pig farm."
"Man, those Hordies are swarming all over it."
"It's turning Northwest... Oh hell, it's heading towards Alliance territory."
"Form ranks. Designating this a Raid Boss. Let's go!"
Atop a mountain, seeing the battle in the distance, Jiraiya was considering the world they'd come to.
The current descriptor of 'insane' seemed as good as any to sum it up.
Right now, it looked as if the 'Horde' and 'Alliance' were putting their dispute mainly on hold while they dealt with an enraged Ninetailed Demon Fox. Who would charge up a Menacing Ball attack and blow a hole in the ranks of those assaulting it, or lash with a tail and obliterate a mountain, or turn a pig farm into a smoking ruin.
Glancing back, he saw the Priestess continue to work - and he saw where bone and sinew were reforming where they'd been cut away. Tsunade wouldn't have been able to do anything about those sorts of injuries, but here it was happening right before him.
One of the little guys landed and threw a barrier up around all of them, then settled down into a position near the Priestess and began doing something similar.
"Glarp?" managed Naruto.
"Stay still, gaki," said Jiraiya. "How you're even alive..."
"Can we go home now?" asked Naruto after his tongue had reformed.
"You want to go before they're finished putting you back together?" asked Jiraiya.
"Good point," said Naruto. After a few minutes, he asked a question. "Am I screwed up worse than I thought, or is that the Kyubi getting beaten on by a couple of armies?"
"Yes, you are, and yes that is," answered Jiraiya.
"Ah," said Naruto.
"Stay still, this is delicate work," hissed the Priestess.
Jiraiya watched in amazement as the mighty Kyubi was staggered. Finally the great beast went down, whittled away by the attacking armies. All of Konoha's ninja striking together hadn't managed to do this, it had taken the sacrifice of the Fourth Hokage to put down the Kyubi.
Yet the locals had managed it.
Yes, they were insane. Were they insane because they were so powerful?
He'd have to check into this a bit more.
"Damn! That dropped?!"
"Yeah. Coolness."
"Hey, I got a purple riding broom called 'Nine Foxtailed Broom' - check it out!"
"Damn. I want that too."
"Hope this wasn't a one-time and it respawns."
Naruto Uzumaki had experienced something new. Hopelessness.
It was one thing to rage against being shunned. Another thing to face imminent death. To be permanently crippled and hurt to the extent that he'd been?
Way beyond anything he'd gone through before.
Jiraiya was giving him space and silence, but was nearby in case anything was needed.
Itachi and Kisame had been ready to take off his legs at one point, just to prevent him from escaping. These orcs had gone two stages more thorough.
It was something he'd have to think through, at least partly because his regenerated limbs were as weak as noodles.
One thing for certain though - he wasn't going to say anything about the weird looking gals now. Blue goat-women or pointy-eared purplish skinned women or even the squat-looking redhead who smelled of beer, they were people who'd protected him and brought him back from being a crippled prisoner.
That made them more than all right in his book.
Jiraiya looked over the notes he'd taken. Apparently it was possible, not likely, to be able to train in the local methods of doing things. Doing so, he'd be able to fit in more. Doing so also meant he'd be able to get some potentially useful skills to bring back.
The question was: which of these 'classes' had the most appeal. Once done, everyone agreed that it was DONE and couldn't be changed. Apparently appeals to the gods could occasionally allow one to change one's race - and there were rumors about some curse that altered individuals to draenei or blood elf. (Denied at least by the draenei.) One couldn't change one's 'class' though.
