The world of Grimms and Wesen, are the worlds where all of Grimm's fairy tales are based on true creatures. Things like the Big Bad Wolf are really humans with the ability to shift into wolf-like humanoid, some of whom are quite willing to eat humans and other Wesen. The main thing which prevent this is the Grimms.
Wesen can hide their non-human forms unless they full transform by an act called a woge. However, when emotionally stress they can perform invisible woges, invisible to humans but not to Wesen... or Grimms.
Grimms are superhumans who can see the Wesen when they woge, even when normal humans can not. They protect both worlds by eliminating the Wesen who step out of line... mostly by beheading. They are powerful enough to stand against most Wesen, many who are superhuman themselves. They are also great artists and can have historical Grimm Journals As well as tools and weapons. Most women develop their Grimm powers before their male relatives, and it can skip generations.
We now look to worlds familiar to us, worlds of our favourite anime and manga... but now they are slightly different. For now it is a world of Grimms, where our favourite characters might still be human. Yet they might also be Wesen, perhaps called Youkai by our Japanese friends. Or even Grimms themselves.
