Earth was a strange world, inhabited by an odd people. Although physically Earth was a rather typical garden world, if a bit lacking in landmass and fresh water by some standards. It was in the nature of its inhabitants that Earth's strangeness came to light. Possessing a single Sentient/Sapient race(with several species possessing debatable Sentient/Sapient status). This race, Human, was governed by a single, absolute monarch. Although highly centralized there was an aspect of self rule. However, every human ultimately answered solely to the Empress. This Empress had however, ruled to ensure that her brother's sacrifice was not in vain. The world of Humans was 'Gentle' to her eyes.
There was, of course, corruption and crime to some degree. But the anger of the Empress was feared for good reason. Among Humans there were those who had taken the Oath of the Royal Knights. These Black Knights acted unanswerable to all save the Empress. And when the Empress gave Zero, their leader, Carte-Blanche... Entire worlds have burned at need.
But then, They came. Humanity was NOT alone. But, not everywhere was the Gentle Tyranny of the Empress the norm.
