Mischief Fragment Shippuden: Like A Ninja [Episode 259105]

by Kestral

Jiraiya was aware of a few things. This meditation was kind of like training Sage mode and gathering nature chakra. Except he wasn't actually getting any nature chakra here, there was something else instead.

When he felt a dip and surge in temperature, he opened his eyes but kept sitting in the same stance.

There was faint light everywhere, but in front of him was a Light - one that was a physical presence.

Jiraiya considered it before him and tried to remember what he'd been told.

flashback:

"Th' Light," explained Thordra, her accent momentarily thick before she dealt with whatever mental distraction was going on, at which point it mostly went away. "It be more a philosophy than a god if ye can ken it. Ye seek perfection within yeself, and ye actively practice virtue instead o' sacrificing to some poncy overworlder. It's a connection to the universe itself, and be about trying to better the world around ye."

Jiraiya thought for a moment. "Like when I'm writing one of my novels and the words start to flow suddenly - my muse given full rein?"

"Aye," said Thordra, nodding happily. "The Light be aboot that sort of thing a'right. Tis the same feelin' I be getting wi' me crafting when it all clicks together. Bein' true to yer emotions, dwelling in the positive that be benefit to others - aye. That be the Light. Now, when ye be connected th' first time, ye'll be seein' the Light as a physical thing. No being a great philosopher type meself, all the talk aboot this 'psychobabble representation of some whoozit' go righ' o'er me head. Just think o' it as a sort of image yer mind interprets things as, eh? One o' the sayings be 'Experience the beauty an' glory o' the world - and ye own soul's beauty an' glory be strengthened.'"

"Okay," said Jiraiya, not completely understanding that but willing to accept it for now.

"There be three virtues involved - Respect, Tenacity, and Compassion, but we be seein' if ye can reach that Light afore we be getting into such things."

End flashback

Jiraiya opened his mouth to ask something.

(Curiosity/Sadness/Empathy/Compassion)

Jiraiya closed his mouth, blinked a couple of times, considered that, and tried again. "Am I able to become a Priest class?"

(Sadness/Empathy/Protectiveness/Query)

"If I got that right, you're asking if I want to protect and help others - which is a fundamental part of this 'Light philosophy' or so I'm told," said Jiraiya. "Then the answer is yes."

(Betrayer/Spreader-of-darkness/enemy?)

"Well, no, I'm not fond of Orochimaru myself," admitted Jiraiya. "How do you know of him?"

Flickering images raced across his mind.

"Those are my memories?" asked Jiraiya, a bit put off.

(Ancients/Confer/Discuss/Plan)

"I didn't get most of that," admitted Jiraiya.

(Conclusion/Compromise/Solution/Acquisition)

"And it'll put a knot in the shorts of that snake to boot."

Jiraiya did NOT jump as another presence coalesced in this not-space. "Uhm."

The cat nodded to him. "This might hurt a bit."

Everyone present was somewhat surprised when multicolored light slammed into the novice, then threw him into wall and then ceiling and then back down to the floor.

"Ouch," said Jiraiya.

"Don't ye do anything normal?" asked Thordra.

"Not if I can help it," admitted Jiraiya. "So..."

"So?" asked Thordra. "Eh? When I look at ye, ye come up 'Jiraiya, level 75 Ninja, Ninjutsu Specialist' but what do that mean?"

"It means I keep my usual skills, but I can learn some jutsu or spells - from other classes as long as I study them and can make a work around," said Jiraiya, picking himself up and looking thoughtful. "I think I can work with this."
