Izanami had a problem.
Not too long ago, she had begun an experiment to determine what Man truly desired. She selected three humans residing in the small town of Inaba: Taro Namatame, a city council secretary, Tohru Adachi, a police officer, and Yu Narukami, a high school student. To these three, she granted the power to enter a realm of her own creation--a realm only accessible through the human devices known as televisions. She spread rumors about the Midnight Channel, then stood aside and watched.
As it turned out, her three test subjects had very different opinions of the world. Different enough that Narukami, along with a group of his friends, was willing to put a stop to the machinations of Adachi, who sought to engulf the world in Shadows--the manifestation of humanity's negative thoughts and feelings.
It seemed that she needed more data.
