He hadn't expected Sakura to look completely lost as another Naruto dispersed in a puff of smoke, with Sasuke charging forward and unleashing his taijutsu skills.
Naruto, six of whom were shadow clones, was moving into various positions around the area. No doubt readying traps while using Sasuke as a distraction.
Kakashi simply slipped under Sasuke's attempt to leap up and axe-kick him, lashing out in a simple block manuever that would indicate why one did NOT use that move in a serious fight.
"GYAHHHHHHHHKKKKK!" managed Sasuke, curled around his agony.
"Was that... the sound of breaking glass?" asked a Naruto.
Kakashi threw a kunai through that clone, just a reminder that he was supposed to be using stealth. Though, thinking about it, that HAD been the sound effect. Odd.
Sasuke whimpered from where he was curled up on the ground.
"Oh come on, another five years and yeah - it would be some serious damage," said Kakashi.
Sakura continued to stand there, watching Sasuke.
Kakashi sighed. Really, that hadn't been planned at all. Ah well, time to deal with Sakura. Maybe?
"Genjutsu. Hell Viewing Technique."
Thud!
Kakashi looked down at the fainted Sakura and the whimpering Sasuke and thought it very unlikely there would be further indication of teamwork from the two.
"Kakashi-sensei," called out a hidden Naruto. "Sakura-chan fainted and Sasuke is out of it, right?"
"Yeah, that's pretty much the situation," agreed Kakashi. "You going to actually do anything?"
"Yeah," said Naruto.
Kakashi sighed and waited as all the smoke bombs went off, completely obscuring the area. As was all-too-predictable, he'd rescued Sakura but left Sasuke behind. Way too...
Turning a page in his book, he didn't give any indication to the genin that he'd noticed something amiss.
Sasuke was moved, just a couple of inches. Which means that's a shadow clone that he's used a transformation on. Waiting for his moment to ambush his instructor. At least someone's taking the test seriously.
Naruto sat back, considering what to do.
"Quests."
[Bell Test: Pass Kakashi's Test.]
"Clues," tried Naruto.
[Bell Test: Pass Kakashi's Test.]
[Rule #7: Kakashi's test involves teamwork.]
"How to convince you two to work with me, that's the question," mused Naruto.
"You could try asking," grumbled Sasuke.
"Let's wake Sakura up," said Naruto, not surprised that Sasuke had been exaggerating. "I got an idea."
The Sasuke on the ground sneezed hard enough that it dispelled itself.
"Unfortunate," summed up Kakashi. "Though those sorts of things DO happen."
"Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" yelled someone attacking him, shooting out of the woods as if she'd been thrown.
Kakashi moved just enough that she shot past him despite her flailing around and trying to catch him. "Well, that hasn't been tried before."
Whip! Thunk! Splut!
"Damn it, Naruto I ran into one of your traps! Now I've got shaving cream in my ear!"
Kakashi blinked at that, looking curiously off towards the noise. Obito used one of those once. Huh.
"WAGH!" said Sakura's voice. "Okay, this is worse. I almost got this book messed up."
Kakashi blinked and wiggled his fingers. Empty. He went back over the flying genin memory and realized that she HAD been flailing around and his concentration might have wandered.
"What the heck? 'Kyoko's breath was labored as she looked up into her sensei's face' - what kind of book IS this?!"
"That information is above your age group," said Kakashi as he prepared to rescue his book.
TWANG! SPLUT!
"Uh oh."
"'Uh oh' what?" asked Kakashi.
"I used the book to block that," said Sakura's voice.
"Nooooo!" said Kakashi as he rushed to rescue his precious before further damage was done.
As soon as Kakashi reached for the book, Sasuke and Naruto struck.
Unfortunately, Kakashi was surprised. Naruto found that out when he was smashed into a tree hard enough that he heard bones break.
[Team 7 Test Failed]
[Try Again? Y/N ___]
"Damn," said Naruto, blinking up at the hospital ceiling that was just past those words.
[Command Not Understood.]
[Team 7 Test Failed]
[Try Again? Y/N ___]
"Yes," tried Naruto.
The surroundings faded briefly away to white, then-
