Mischief Fragment - Naruko: The mind is a plaything [Episode 263560]

by Konsaki

Feeling her daughter calming down, Mikoto took a deep calming breath for her own nerves. Separating from Sachiko slightly, the raven haired woman looked her daughter in the eye. “Sachiko, please don’t take this the wrong way; I trust you, I really do, but I need to make sure that nothing is…” Mikoto paused, trying to think of the correct words. “That this is not something affecting your thoughts and memories.”

“Like a Genjutsu.” Sachiko stated, understanding what her mother was implying. “We suspected that too and tried to dispel it but nothing happened.”

Mikoto nodded in approval at the appropriate response her daughter took. “That’s good but I might be able to sense something when you might not. I have been a kunoichi longer than you’ve been alive.” She wryly stated with a small smile before returning to her serious visage.

“I’m ready, Okaa-chan.” Sachiko stated, sitting up straight and looking her mother in the eye.

Mikoto closed her eyes and took a breath; when she opened them, her irises were a blood red with black tomo swirling inside. Observing her daughter’s form, she placed a hand on Sachiko’s head and sent a wave of chakra down the appendage. “Kai!”

After observing Sachiko for a moment, the mother relaxed to let red fade back into dark pools of darkness.

“You didn’t see anything.” Sachiko stated, still vividly remembering her previous life as an orphaned boy.

“No, I didn’t.” Mikoto confirmed before pushing herself up from the bed and assisting her daughter up as well. “But there’s one more thing I’d like to have checked, just to be sure.”

Following her mother out of the bedroom, Sachiko quirked her eyebrow in interest. “What’s that?”

“The professional opinion from someone who specializes with matters of the mind.” The raven haired mother explained as they went downstairs, pausing for a moment in the family room where Kushina was reading a book. “Kushina, something came up. Sachiko and I need to go out for a bit.”

Looking up from her book and glancing towards the clock, Kushina let out a thoughtful hum. “We might do the same, then. I haven’t taken her out for a mother daughter meal in a while.”

“I hope you two have fun.” Mikoto wished them well with a smile, leading her own daughter out the front door a few moments later.

They approached their destination a little while later, a mostly non-descript, two story house in a residential area of the village. The only thing setting it apart from its neighbors were the planter boxes bustling with flowers set at the windows and along the inner-fence perimeter. As they reached the front door, Sachiko noticed a clan mark but it took her a few moments to recognize what clan it belonged to.

Clan Yamanaka: the mental jutsu specialist clan of Konohagakure.

The door opened a few moments after Mikoto’s knock, showing a dirty-blonde haired man around the mother’s age.

“Mikoto? How can I help you this evening?” The Yamanaka man questioned, glancing from the Uchiha woman to daughter and back.

Bowing slightly, the raven haired woman apologized. “I’m sorry to impose on you, Inoichi, but I’ve come to ask for a favor.”

This caused Inoichi’s brows to shoot up in surprise. Turning slightly to make room, he said, “Please, come in and make yourselves comfortable. I’ll get you some tea.”

Once they had taken seats in the living area, warm tea in their cups, Inoichi asked again. “Now, how can I be of assistance?”

Placing her teacup down on the low table between her and him, Mikoto nodded her head slightly. “As I stated, I’ve come requesting a favor which I believe only you can fulfill. It pertains to my daughter.” She explained, placing a hand on Sachiko’s shoulder while watching Inoichi quirk a brow in curiosity.

“I need you to ensure no one has tampered with Sachiko’s mind and memories.” She further explained, bowing slightly in her seated position. “I will gladly repay you for your assistance any way I can.”

Inoichi immediately waved off the implied debt. “No need for that, Mikoto. We’ve known each other for long enough and I owe your clan for helping me out in the past.” Seeing the Uchiha woman nod in thanks, the green eyed man quirked his head slightly. “I do have to ask what the situation is that necessitates my skills like this, though.”

The black eyed woman winced slightly before speaking. “Unfortunately, I have to decline to answer until you are through with your examination.”

The Yamanaka Clan Head frowned slightly, sharpening the lines on his face, before he turned his attention to the younger Uchiha female. “Because this isn’t an official matter, I have to ask; do you agree to this of your own volition?”

“I do.” Sachiko succinctly replied with a short nod.

Inoichi just sighed as he pushed himself to standing. Moving behind the raven haired girl, he instructed, “Alright, then. Just relax and let your mind wander, okay? If you try to resist, this could become… unpleasant for both of us.”

Sachiko felt him perform some handseals before the brush of fingers on her hair… then darkness.
