Yet, as he'd learned repeatedly at the hands (and other blunt instruments) of Akane - interfere with her fights and she just got mad at you.
He didn't want that to happen wherever he went, but he had to get involved, so...
He didn't want to rely on this Great Will thingie either. It could be his secret weapon, his special manuever to unleash when nothing else worked.
Ranma didn't know at this point that procedures to pull the Great Will from him were already in motion.
So what he ended up doing was using the Great Will. "I wish these girls would let me help."
The Great Will was semi-sentient. Not self-aware as a person, but more along the lines of a really complicated database management program. One that had a smart parser and could try to figure out how to get the results the User wanted from what was available.
The Great Will therefore had a typical GIGO flaw - Garbage In, Garbage Out.
Which was how wishing the girls would let him help, ended up with Ranma-
