"Who is it?" asked Brayth, the elder hoisting a war spear with a wicked spikes.
"Tis the Midgardians known as the Avengers - their current lineup under the one named Osborn. Not the cool one that Thor used to heft hammer with."
"Ah. These 'H.A.M.M.E.R.' rogues," said Brayth. "Did not the four ninja used to be in that group ye are attempting to herd?"
Thrym quickly counted heads. "Ymir's Bristly Beard! Ninja be harder to herd than cats."
"No way," said Naruto, peeking over the raised edge of a stone bridge.
"This isn't war," said Sakura. "I'm not sure WHAT you call this."
Hinata hesitated, ready to say something, but then decided against it.
There were figures in colorful outfits fighting everywhere. The Asgardians were all armored and using melee weapons or bows. The attackers used fists that could shatter armor, or blasts of various energies, or other strange jutsu.
Naruto made a hand-sign and sent a dozen copies of himself scrambling to get down into the battle.
"You're wrong," said Sasuke finally. "This IS war. War as ninja wage it. No declaration of war, simply attacking without prior word. Jutsu are used without hesitation to cut your enemy down."
"It's a slaughter," said Hinata finally. "That one there is trying to EAT people. That one in yellow - he's the most dangerous of them all."
"Someone who can fly and is strong enough to shatter towers by himself," said Sasuke. "Dangerous yes. MOST dangerous?"
"A flying castle, those machines launching missiles, that -" Sakura stopped as she saw something. "Something in those missiles. The stones are burning."
"That large black one is EATING his fallen opponent," pointed out Hinata, sounding severely nauseated.
"Look out," said Naruto just before one of the two towers the bridge connected was blown up.
Norman Osborn observed the carnage (not the supervillain) with a jaundiced eye.
The destruction of the city was largely superficial. As Asgardians were considerably tougher than humans, he had to use extreme measures like the Hellfire (not the superhero) Missiles, some countermeasures for superhumans like the screamer grenades, and massive amounts of firepower.
Sentry was using his speed and strength to mow through the average Asgardian like a tiger confronted with a mob of chickens. The U-Foes were likewise able to overwhelm the defenders they came across. Data indicated that Asgardians were three times as strong and durable as an average human. Pathetic compared to his own forces, but some were experienced warriors and could put those factors to good use even with archaic weapons.
Not that it would help them in the end. Asgard would be removed from the United States if he had to take every single brick and drop them in the mid-Atlantic.
He had, in fact, a plan to do exactly that.
The technological advantage was overwhelming. The Asgardians had horses. Horses that could handle the greater weight of the Asgardians and were denser themselves - but horses nonetheless. He was fielding a H.A.M.M.E.R. helicarrier, jets, and -
Lightning flared in Braxton. Storm clouds gathered and a wind blew over the battlefield.
A "gust front" it was called. The wind that came before a storm.
"Positions," ordered Osborn over the comm-network.
"Uh, Thor's here," noted Moonstone/Ms. Marvel.
"I see that," noted Obsorn.
"I thought you said Thor wouldn't be here," added Ms. Marvel.
"Don't worry. Keep fighting," indicated Osborn.
"I'm worried. Very worried," said Ms. Marvel, knowing full well that Thor was NOT someone you could easily take down.
There was a boom that nearly knocked her off her feet as Sentry slammed into Thor over ten meters away.
Venom, or Spider-man as they were currently calling him, had spotted the kids as the tower collapsed and took the bridge down with them.
Mac Gargan used the symbiote to eat a rider and his horse, then strode towards the rubble.
At which point the rubble was suddenly covered with blond kids who were charging him.
