"A single magical event," responded the Being on the other end of the connection. "Time, space, matter, energy - all of these can be altered if one knows the manner. You speak the words and it will be done - reality itself changed to fit the conditions that you give."
"That sounds inordinately dangerous," rumbled Kurama from his cage.
"Well, yes. Be careful of your words, young ninja. As much as this is for my amusement, it is your words which may seal not only your fate but that of the young kunoichi whose spirit may soon be broken beyond all repair."
"Watch what I say? I've never been able to do that!"
"Hmph. Beginnings of wisdom right there."
"Indeed."
"I - I - oh heck." Naruto swallowed nervously. Since there was only one other individual to ask, he did. "What should I do?"
"Abandon the girl, she is already lost. Save yourself by getting out of these Woods."
Naruto scowled. "Not happening. You want a wish? Here's my wish!"
"I'm listening."
"I wish I had the power to save Sakura and kick this Wood's wooden ass!" growled Naruto.
"Power alone won't do both." The voice paused. "The Wood is older than you can easily imagine, more intelligent than you, and powerful in ways that you cannot currently comprehend. Power alone can get you out of the Wood easily enough. It will not save the girl though. The only way to do that through the application of power that I see would be to imbue you with a great power that is the antithesis of the Darkness that is the Wood - and you would be likely to destroy her without experience wielding that power. Especially as her body is now too far gone to reclaim through normal means."
"What does that mean?" asked Naruto, appropriately horrified.
"It means that she has been consumed. Eaten. Devoured."
"Essentially correct."
"Then I wish," began Naruto, "I had the power and know-how to get what's left of Sakura out of there, fix her, and to beat back this 'Wood' thing so hard it'll regret taking on Naruto Uzumaki!"
"Hmmm. Yes. I think I can do that. If I do this like so-"
