"NOOOOOO!" declared Naruto, dropping to his knees.
"Search your feelings, you know it to be true," said the fox-thing.
"No! It can't be!" said a horrified Naruto.
There was a brief pause as if the demon-fox was savoring the way Naruto was on his knees, clearly horrified at the possibility. Maybe because he WAS savoring Naruto's reaction.
"Pffft."
The sound was enough to draw Naruto's attention briefly.
"BWAHAHAHA! He bought it! HAHAHAHAHA! What a maroon! Talk about gullible!"
"Wha-?" asked Naruto.
"What an ignoramus! Your expression! HAHAHAHAHA!"
Naruto sulked. "Not funny."
"I thought it most amusing."
"Not," protested Naruto.
"Maybe. It's kind of boring here so I have to get what humor I can."
"So who are you then?" asked Naruto.
"I am actually the monster that tried to destroy this school, the Ninetailed Demon Fox, the Kyubi, Devourer Of Dreams and Destroyer Of Worlds!"
"'Destroyer of Worlds'?"
"Well, not yet actually. Working on it. Have to have goals you know."
"Ah, so destroying the world is on your 'to do' list?"
"Yes, but you see the inherent problem don't you? Where do you stand if you destroy the world? You can't actually be ON the world you destroy, because then you can't exactly bask in the accomplishment."
"Hadn't thought of that," admitted Naruto.
"Well, it's obvious when you think about it. Not much else here to do other than think about that sort of thing."
"So, does this thing get any other channels?" asked Naruto as he tried to indicate the mirror.
"Hmmm. If I recall correctly, those magic mirrors can be manually controlled. There are circular designs in the frame, correct?"
"Uhm, yeah, weird symbol things," said Naruto, touching one with a finger. "Hey, it moves."
"Try this-"
Hinata held her hands out. "I am the bone of my sword..."
"What does that even mean?" asked Sakura.
"Bone supports and forms the basis for movement," said Hinata, sagging a bit. "I guess."
"Way to break the mood, Haruno," said one of the older girls. "I know you were born to the nonmagical world, but mood is important on this side of things."
"Uhm, right, sorry," said Sakura, ducking her head.
Hinata sighed.
"I still can't believe there's a 'cosplay' spell," said Sakura, shaking her head.
"It's practice," said the older sorceress. "The spell itself is just for whipping up a quick change of clothing, like when you're unexpectedly outside in the rain. The cosplay aspect is to emphasize control and precision. Go ahead, Hinata."
Wearing the black robes that was the typical school uniform, Hinata nodded and posed again. "I am the bone of my sword. Steel is my body and fire is my blood..."
Sakura watched as Hinata went through the words and then performed the spell, changing her clothing to a red and black outfit that didn't suit her coloration that well.
"Your turn, Sakura."
Sakura shuffled the cards and then looked at the one she drew. "Oh. Can I redraw?"
"No," said the older student, who then peered closer to see why Sakura was turning as red as she was. One side held a picture, the other showed a phrase and the character name. "Ah. Well, go ahead."
Sakura grimaced, concentrated, and used the spell.
FWOMPH!
"EEEK!"
"THAT is NOT River Tam," said the older student. "More like Lady Godiva. And that IS why we practice spells like this so that we can get them off quickly and efficiently."
Kurama settled down. The boy had left the mirror streaming MagiFlix. Now he could binge-watch.
"Heh heh heh. How will Kurumi-chan get out of this one?"
Of course, some people would find it difficult to believe that he - the Ninetailed Demon Fox - would actually watch something so banal. So contrived. So...
"Hiding in the sauna? Oh, that is NOT going to end well. Heh heh."
Naruto found the little ladder against one wall. An odd hatch above, another below, the ladder made entirely of bronze looking pipes.
Cautiously, he climbed up and found the upper hatch led to:
