"So basically," Mambo Jack replied, "the Klingons appear just as numerous worlds declare their independence. They offer protection, which several worlds accept."
"Yes," nodded Celeste. "When they prove effective, the Empire takes steps. One of which is an attempt to do an end run around the Klingon Empire to invade it. Smack dab into the Federation."
"Sounds painful."
"It was. The foreguard squadron, with six Imperator Star Destroyers, had its flagship get blown inside out from the rear by a Constellation class battleship while the squadron had been busy bullying a corvette border patrol squadron. The rest didn't last much longer, once it launched its fighter wings, and kept sweeping the Imperial TIEs with barrages of mini-photon torpedoes."
"And, of course, the Federation investigated the situation, and got involved directly."
Celeste turned to a different screen. "In any case, that's another four score years down the road. Shall we see how the changes have altered the situation with regard to Akane's labour?"
