Celeste sighed, "Looks like initial contact will be during the chaotic phase following the death of Emperor Palpatine over the forest moon of Ender, before the New Republic firmly established itself."
"Hmmm," noted Mambo Jack. "With some judicious political maneuvering, the Klingons could easily end up with a significant chunk of galactic territory, as could the Romulans. Several of the Core Worlds, and their neighbours, would be right at home in the Federation."
"Can the New Republic even survive?"
"Not a clue. Probably not, the basic concept is fundamentally unsound as a political entity. The only reason the Galactic Republic survived for as long as it did was because it never faced a significant threat that the Jedi couldn't deal with until the end."
Celeste turned to a different screen. "In any case, that's another four score years down the road. Shall we see how the changes have altered the situation with regard to Akane's labour?"
