Which was how she met one Nodoka Saotome. The woman was nice enough, if a little conservative for her tastes. After a hard day of job hunting, she had run into the older woman at a store and they had gotten to talking. Somehow, she had managed to get Kiyone to admit that she was a police officer, but hadn't managed to find out what department she was with.
They'd sort of settled into a friendly relationship. Even then, she didn't know why Nodoka had set up this meeting. They hadn't really gone out of their way like this, all formal and everything.
"So tell me, Kiyone, what do you think of my son?"
The Galaxy Policewoman tried to figure out the reasoning behind the other woman's question, and didn't see much into it. She had met Ranma and been... amazed at some of things that she had seen. The young man seemed to have a lot of chaos follow him around, just like her partner. (Wherever the hell she was.) Yet he seemed nice and was pretty cute for a younger man.
"I guess I like him. He tries hard, and isn't afraid to do anything," Kiyone said off handedly.
"I see, but do you think he's handsome?"
That got a blink. "Excuse me?"
"Just an idle question, one from a mother."
"Uh... well... he is attractive, I'll give him that. But he needs someone to give hims some sort of direction."
"Someone like you?"
"Heh. I doubt that. I mean, I've been so busy with work and all, I haven't had time to have a boyfriend."
"That is a shame."
"It's okay. I mean, I've worked so hard to get to where I wanted to go, but it hasn't come through yet."
"Why not?"
"My partner."
"Oh?"
"She's the ultimate ditz. You give her a task and she ruins it. Tell her to guide the dump truck to where it's supposed to be, and she sends it into a pit. We get a case, and she goes charging after the bad guy like he's a murderer when he's only out for a joyride."
"She sounds... problematic."
"She is."
"Then why don't you ask for a new one?"
"I have but she won't be with anyone else," the green haired woman said as she leaned back in her seat, "Besides, someone has to take care of her."
"You sound perfect."
"Tell my sargent that."
"Wouldn't that be unseemly for a mother-in-law to do?"
"WHAT?!"
"Please do not shout."
"Sorry, but you surprised me."
"Did I? I apologise for that."
"Accepted. But what is this 'mother-in-law' thing?"
"I want you to marry my son."
"Why me?"
"You are intelligent, disiplined and caring. You would be able to deal with Ranma's occasional... problems, and have much more world experience than he does."
"But to marry him..."
"It would be wonderful. After all, you would compliment each other so well. And then there is another consideration."
"What is that?"
"You two would make such beautiful babies together."
Staring blankly at the Saotome Matriarch, Kiyone had no idea of what to say. "Umm... mind if I think about it?"
"Take all the time you need," Nodoka told her, and gave a look to the propertier of the resturant, "We'll have some special tea while you think."
"Hold on, I don't want to inconvenince anyone..."
"Nonsense. I know the owner very well and she doesn't mind making special orders."
"You do?"
"Oh yes. Cologne's great-granddaughter is one of Ranma's cat-girls after all."
"She is?"
"Yes, she is. And drink your tea before it gets cold."
Looking a bit dubious, the Galaxy Policewoman sipped her tea while the older woman looked at her. It was really good to be honest, and she didn't mind drinking it. And sipping it was easier than dealing with what had just been requested of her."
There they sat quietly while:
