First, it had taken years upon years of searching the back trails of Japan, Korea and China. All without result until it was decided to check a phone book on a lark, but the only Ranma that had produced was some redheaded girl living with her mother. The age was about right, but Ranma didn't have red hair, and he hadn't been a girl.
After that, there had been some reports of a Genma Saotome with a boy, but the reports put the boy at much too young an age. And the name was different too, Sotaro or something like that.
And now the reports had led here, to America.
The hunter growled and looked around. Somewhere, in this area, was the desired Saotome. As shop was set up someone walked over from the restaurant (competition) across the street.
"Hey, can I help with that?" the individual asked.
"I'm about to take some of your client base," the hunter said. "Why would you want to help me?"
"Are you kidding?" the other youth said. "You'd be doing us a favor. We're the ONLY Japanese place in town! We can't keep up with the demand. I'm practically dead on my feet from deliveries!"
"Gee," the hunter said. "That bad?"
"You better believe it," the second one confirmed. "By the way, my name's Sammi."
"Ukyou," the hunter said. "Pleased to meet you."
And at this point the same, exactly the same, down to the word, trouble-provoking thought travelled through both their minds.
"He's pretty cute. I wish I could tell him I'm a girl."
