[Suggested BGM: The 1960's: The Turbulent Years - John Williams - Nixon Soundtrack (1995)]
One day, Nabiki Tendo entered a certain high-rise Tokyo office building and used a certain elevator to get to a certain floor of the building which she had the access key for. The elevator doors opended to reveal a short hallway with tasteful wood panneling with an unmarked closed door at the end. Nabiki knocked on the door in a certain pattern, twisted the doorknob, and went inside--closing the door behind her....
Nabiki sat at a large, round table at which were seated several other individuals of the fair sex she knew--each with assorted paperwork before them on the table. She took a sip of tea from the teacup near her and remarked: "Excellent tea as always, Setsuna. Darjeeling?"
"Earl Grey." replied the woman with long emerald green hair seated opposite Nabiki, taking a sip of tea from her cup as well.
Nabiki glanced down at one of the papers before her and scanned it for a moment. "The activity in Nerima has been predictably unpredictable as usual. Ranma--chaos magnet that he is--has been the source for some considerably high property damage there as of late. The construction industry there have been buying more supplies than usual through my network of suppliers. Thus, additional monies not anticipated have been added to our reserves to aid our cause."
"I see." surmised Setsuna primly in contemplation, turning her attention to a young woman with long dark hair seated nearby. "Sakura, anything...unusual...happen in Tomobiki recently? It's been rather quiet in Juuban lately--hardly any youma attacks at all." What could the Negaverse be up to which would require me to use the Time Gate and risk a paradox storm?...
"Not really, Ataru is still...'rasing hell' as is his wont when he is not dodging Lum's 'divine retribution'." replied the raven-haired miko with a bit of a smirk. "However, sources privy to me indicate the Mendos are up to something--more intelligence will be needed to find out more about it."
"I have a group of covert operatives in the Tomobiki area who could help you out with that task for the usual fee...." offered Nabiki helpfully, a thin smile on her face.
"That being a return favor requested at a most...difficult time for the one giving the favor." interjected a young girl, scowling momentarily at the blue laptop computer on the table in front of her. She had long dark hair and three blue tatoolike markings on her face. She continued tapping away on the laptop. "Anyway, Yggdrasil appears to be in nominal working order, nothing adverse to report--"
"What's wrong, Skuld?" asked Nabiki, concerned. The Tendo turned her attention to the diminutive Norn as she tapped away on her laptop--her countennance masked in utter concentration to the task at hand....
