"So, Tohru... what is your cousin Ranma like?" Jackie asked as he, Tohru, and Jade waited at the airport for the plane to arrive.
"I do not really know." Tohru admitted. "I have never met him."
"He's your cousin, and you've never met him?" Jade asked, surprised.
Tohru shrugged. "Second cousin, really. He's my cousin Genma's son. I occasionally get letters from Genma, who has been teaching Ranma his family's martial art form. From what I've gathered, Ranma is a very good fighter... but a bit of a hot head."
"So why's he coming here?" Jade asked.
Tohru frowned. "All I know is that his fiancee recently died. His father hopes that spending some time here in America will help Ranma recover. He was also hoping that Uncle could possibly find a cure for some kind of curse Ranma is under."
"Oh." Jade replied, subdued. Even her usual boundless cheer could find no purchase in that.
"I'm sorry, Tohru." Jackie added.
"It is all right. Just don't bring it up unless he does. He might not want to talk about it."
Then the PA announced that the plane Ranma was flying had arrived. They turned and waited for their first glimpse of Tohru's cousin...
