"Schist!" Asuka muttered to herself as she ran down the hill. The alert from HQ just had to sound when she was showering after gym class. 'I'm supposed to make them gasp at my spectacular ability, not joke about my lateness.' She growled as she saw Rei close to the bottom of the hill.
There was a clatter nearby, and a voice called "look out!" Asuka glanced at the source of the voice a moment before her foot came down on some of the just dropped marbles, and she pitched forward. Trying to keep from falling, she forced herself to run faster, her balance still off she shot down the hill to slam into the wall right behind where Rei had just turned.
Rei paused and looked behind her. She blinked at the sight of Asuka half embedded in the wall at the base of the hill. "Oh, She will need medical assistance." Rei commented, opening her bag to look for her cell phone.
Asuka fell out of the impression in the wall, collapsing into a sitting posture, her eyes swirling while little birds circled her head.
Rei's hand froze, and she blinked. The birds were still there. Taking her hand out of her bag, she took a step closer, hand extended. One of the birds landed on her finger.
Raising her hand right in front of her face, Rei looked at the small blue bird chirping as it sat on her finger. "This is odd." She said quietly.
Asuka closed her eyes with a grimace, and shook her head. With a soft pop, all the birds including the one perching on Rei's hand vanished. Asuka glanced at Rei, scowling at the puzzled expression being directed at her, and stood. Brushing the dust from her skirt she ran down the street toward Nerv Headquarters calling "Coming Wondergirl?!" as she ran.
Rei looked at her hand, looked at the impression Asuka had made in the concrete wall, then looked after her fellow pilot. "Something strange has happened," she said quietly as she made her own way to headquarters.
