Usagi's New Life: The Wizard & His Motives [Episode 30231]

by Kestral

Back in Bermuda, the Wizard sat back with his drink and listened to the surf.

He wasn't a bad fellow, as far as Menaces To Crystal Tokyo and the like went. He didn't like the idea of killing people, had a real problem with the idea of ruling the world, had absolutely no need for Pure Hearts, Dream Mirrors, life energy, or anything of that nature.

Though his body was barely fourteen, he was actually a little over 112,000 terrestrial years old. Give or take a few centuries. Frankly, a lot of the Menaces To Crystal Tokyo were childish and immature and really hadn't thought things out - in his own estimation of course.

Destroy the world? Why? If you wanted a dead world there were thousands of them just in this spatial sector.

Steal life energy and attempt to serve an Alien Intelligence? Yeah, fine - but when you were successful you ended up on the menu yourself. Where's the fun in that?

No, the Wizard had discovered that 99% of all the motivations attributed to Wizards were done so through absolute ignorance. He wasn't the most powerful or nasty of wizards though, so he might be biased.

The Wizard was actually a computer hacker who'd been through a few time and dimension journeys. A magical spell was a lot like a program. So while his spells didn't have a lot of "oomph" to them, he could be pretty deuced clever while figuring out new ways to use them and to hack into other people's spells and transformations.

Now he had found himself here, and as this was close to his world of origin in many respects, he was inclined to stay. Set up a small network to run things in his local vicinity for him, keep him from getting disturbed a lot, and he could sit back with a cold six pack and dabble his feet in the warm surf and cuddle with a few cuties.

He might tire of it in a few decades or centuries, but then he could move on with his little entourage of likewise mainly laid back associates.

Except for this whole Great Freeze and Crystal Tokyo thing.

He certainly didn't have a darn thing against some girls who were defending their world for alien menaces. Nope. Heroes were good, even if the cheerleader costumes seemed a bit odd. The idea of this totalitarian utopia with the world mainly frozen except Tokyo, which was the only city that mattered to the new rulers, and this whole "future is foreordained" thing - that was just unhappiness waiting to happen.

So. He had to skunk the deal. He'd set up a plan with a tentacle demon of his acquaintance, and they'd gotten the Senshi with their pants (or skirts) down and their defenses not in place.

Heck, just trying to keep the Paradox Storm from forming over things these girls had already done was a major work for him.

So, sure, he could have taken the easy route. Killed them off, melted them in that Galaxy Cauldron thing that was apparently where these Lunarian types came from.

He just wasn't comfortable with killing heroes. This current plan was a bit perverted perhaps, but he was a fourteen year old boy at present.

Yeesh. The things he had to do to get a little R&R.

He didn't know why he was in guy form again, but that wasn't as important as his friends.

Ranma reached out to his favorite kitty, currently in human form, and touched the smooth but flexible metal around her neck.

From the unbroken circle of the collar hung a little metal tag in the shape of a heart. In that heart were words.

Ami
If found, please return to
Ranma Saotome.

Other tags on the ring proclaimed that she'd had various vaccinations and licenses.

Ranma went to the next and the next. Each of them wore a similar collar.

It was odd, if he closed his eyes it was like he could tell where each of them was without looking. That bundle of warm and fuzzy was the very same Ami who had ridden around in his shirt as a kitty. That fierce/warm/protective was the same Haruka who'd slept next to his bedroll so often. And so on.

What the Wizard guy had done, other than the collar, Ranma was still trying to figure out when he noticed.
