"Ranma! Today you'll pay for stealing Shampoo from me!" Mousse screamed from the top of the wall he was standing on.
The blond haired boy turned slightly and called out "Hey, Ranma! Mousse wants ya!"
Mousse blinked and put his glasses on and scowled at the blonde young man dressed in a white t-shirt and blue jeans. "Keep out of my way Max!"
"Don't worry Ranma hates it when I interfere with his fights. But you'll be glad to know that I repaired my first aid kit for fixing you up after he gets done with you." Max commented as he leaned against a nearby tree with a smirk.
"Hey Mousse!" Ranma called cheerfully as he landed by Max. "How's it going."
Mousse grinned. "Heh, today, today is you last!" He slid his right hand into his left sleeve, then pulled out a red baseball style cap with a white M on it's front. With a confident cackle he put it on his head.
Ranma blinked. "A baseball cap?"
"Frankly, I don't think it looks right on him." Max commented. "Though the personal monogram's a nice touch."
With a cry Mousse leaped forward, disgorging a hoard of chains from his sleeves at the pair. Both casually leaped out of the way, Max hopping to one side, while Ranma ran up one chain toward it's source.
Cutting off the chains Mousse tried to tag Ranma with three spears he ejected from one sleeve, and when Ranma casually ducked under them, he followed up with a sword from his other sleeve.
"Young man!"
Max diverted some of his attention from studying the fight to glance at Cologne who had just arrived. "Yeah? Something to say grams?" A second later he was clutching his head where she had hit it.
"Respect your elders." She paused and looked at the fight. "Damn, he took it!"
"It? Wait you wouldn't mean that baseball cap would you?"
"It is the last of the cosmic caps. It was left my people by the last of the Lemurian sages before he died. And it is the sign and tool of the legendary Mighty One."
"Mighty One?" Max commented incredulously. "Mousse isn't looking too mighty to me."
"That's the title of the true Cap bearer. Mousse isn't the one. He apparently read part of the story and came to the wrong conclusion."
"Ok, Just a moment." Max leaped and caught the cap, which had been knocked into the air when Ranma embedded Mousse in the ground. "Hmm, neat looking hat." With a grin he flipped it onto his head. "So, does it suit me?"
"Don't be. . ." Cologne's response trailed off as the cap began to glow. The glow ignited an brilliant aura around Max while the cap itself shone like the sun.
Max was engulfed by a storm of memories. He was familiar with the recent ones. His time at the Tendo Dojo, his travels with Genma and Ranma, and how he had met the pair when he fell through an opening in the sky four years ago.
But for the first time in four years he could clearly remember what happened before that. His mother, his friends, the cap, the portals, the ancient warrior Norman, the talking chicken('Fowl Actually')Virgil. And Skullmaster.
He stood in stonehenge, alone. Skullmaster boasted how his crystal of souls would soon release the power to control time, a power that the cap he had taken would enable him to absorb and master. Norman was dead, Virgil was dead, even that demon Lava-Lord had been destroyed by Skulmaster.
As the sun set, the crystal of souls exploded with power, and Skulmaster laughed in triumph.
"Cap bearer." Max recalled Virgil telling him. "Every person has a gift, and in that gift lies their destiny!" Charging forward, he leaped and caught the staff holding the Crystal of Souls. It's energy suddenly expanded engulfing him as well.
"What are you doing! Let Go!" Skullmaster screamed.
"Sorry, can do that!" Max called, concentrating on the energy that was flowing through him.
Ths sky suddenly lit with a thousand suns and moons as the power began to run wild, disrupting time and space. Suddenly like a snap there was darkness, and the next thing Max knew he had fallen out of a hole in time and space.
