He pondered for a moment if he should visit Cologne, but he dismissed that idea. He didn't trust her to tell him the truth, specially if that would endanger his 'chances' with Shampoo... but that wasn't the real reason he didn't want to go there; a reason he refused to admit to himself.
He was afraid of what he would see there.
He hoped that he wouldn't be able to see Cologne herself, for the same reason he couldn't see Happousai with his new eye, whatever it was; and he would accept whatever he would see about Mousse... but Shampoo was a different matter.
He had already deducted that the chains he saw in the people were the things that 'owned' them in their hearts... willingly or unwillingly. And Shampoo's life was centered about marrying him. He knew that she would be either tied to him, meaning that she really loved him, or she would be tied to the amazon laws, meaning that it was her honor that made her pursue him.
Even if he wouldn't admit it, he knew that he wouldn't be able to handle the consequences of either one.
Because all that, he decided to go to Dr. Tofu's cousult. After all, he could go to the Nekohanten later if he wasn't able to give him an answer (And he already knew what he would see). Still shaking, he got up and started jumping from roof to roof, avoiding seeing the bystanders on the streets.
When he arrived to the clinic, he couldn't avoid to see from the window an old couple at the waiting hall. Surprisingly, what he saw was better than he had expected. Instead of the strong chains he had seen tying the Tendo sisters, a small golden thread tied them to each other. True, that wasn't the only visible thing with his new eye, as there were also other scars and chains on them, but he knew that despite the apparent weakness of the bond between them, it would endure, as it sang of hope and happiness.
He just stood there, watching them, until Dr. Tofu finished with his current patient, a middle aged man, and told the couple to go with him to the consult.
In the very moment that the young doctor saw them, Ranma saw how a strong, ugly chain with a barbed hook coming from her stomach went right into the flesh of the doctor. The only hint of that in the real world was a slight look of worry in the normally cheerful face of the doctor.
Ten minutes later, they left the consult. Ranma could see that the chain that connected the doctor to the old woman had weakened somewhat, but it was still strong. When the couple left the building, the chain just disappeared, but the wound that it had caused was still present. The doctor stopped putting his reassuring smile and sat in a chair, looking a bit depressed.
Now that he could see Dr. Tofu clearly, he could see that he had a lot of small wounds in all his body; some recent, and some fading away. The only exception is a big scar on his right hand, that looked very old, but didn't show any hint of fade.
Wondering about the meaning of what he had just seen, Ranma...
