Slowly rising from the ground, as if a marionette pulled by invisible strings, the youth hunched over forward, the ethereal wisps of Chi coalescing into the shape of a giant tiger. The light grew so bright that the men's eyes began to water, the ephemeral construct silently declaring its dominance as it towered over the two men who had inadvertently brought about it's creation.
Failing their Valour check (or acing their Survival tests, depending on one's point of view) the two fathers decided to call it a tentative success and head out for an early celebration. Hokkaido was supposed to be nice at that time of the year, and besides, they did deserve a vacation for all of their hard work.
The sounds were equally clear; cars, motorcycles, busses, tractors and lorries, bicycles and pedestrians and people in their homes and children playing and TVs and radios and airplanes... And the scents! Food, fumes, dirt, sweat, sewers, more things than he cared to know, every breath filled his nose with information about a whole new world, one he had only peripherally been aware of before. It was as if he had been blind or deaf - the world suddenly being unveiled before him.
More than just that, he could... Perceive, for lack of a better word, the flow of Chi through the world around him. The brilliant motes in every living thing, the thin vapour of inanimate matter, the swirling patterns as energy flowed from place to place. Most of all, he could clearly feel his own Chi - the vague flows replaced by live wires, tingling with raw power. Gently flexing his Essence he winced as his aura flared to life again, the tiger once more hunching over and around him, before slowly fading out of view, leaving only a towering beacon of light stretching into the clear blue sky.
"Weird," he muttered as he tried to figure out why the great big cat thing didn't scare him... And why the mere thought of cats no longer caused him to wince. In fact, the only thing that made him react at all was a heavy blush of embarrassment at the thought of how he had reacted to them earlier!
Absently stretching his body, he noted how it too felt better than ever before, as if he had been running around bruised and exhausted and finally had a chance to rest and heal. Smiling to himself, not smirking but actually smiling, he slowly went down into a deep horse stance. Taking a single deep breath, he emptied his mind and allowed his body to flow into motion.
They still didn't know why He decided to give Bruce-what's-his-name access to the Ultimate Force.
The cause of all of this was a single message, emerging from the all but forgotten god, 3rd class unlimited, Lytek's desk, spread with the speed that only Divine Gossip can attain:
"A Mortal has been Exalted!"
