Because it was a windswept abandoned Japanese castle in the mountains, it was mainly made of wood.
"Uh oh," said Ranma, just before a section of the stairway disintegrated under her. "AAAAAA!"
Saturn gulped as her Master vanished from view. She could go to her directly through her connection to the ring, but as tired as she felt it would probably take some time to be able to leave again.
The Ring was close, the Ring was very close, Saturn realized. Just where was it? At which point she felt the floor under her splinter.
There was the sensation of something rushing, and Ranma realized that Saturn had returned to her ring. Which left her this one to try and get out of here with. Well, that or the one with that leather-clad fire girl.
Figuring that the symbol on the ring would tell her what was inside, Ranma rubbed it:
